Rifugio Quintino Sella – Pian Del Re refuge

(S) From the refuge, take the E22 “Sentier Italia Tappa” Mont Viso Circuit trail heading north-west towards the Col du Viso, following the shores of Lake Grand Viso.

(1) At the pass, continue along the path heading north. Taking the fork to the right just before the pass, the path leads to Viso Mozzo (3019 m)

(2) At the fork, continue in the same direction to Lake Chiaretto.
Note: the path on the left takes you to (4) but you do not pass by the lake; a shame, as it is magnificent.

(3) Walk along the lake and continue in the same northerly direction until you reach another fork.

(4) At the fork, take the right-hand branch, heading north to the Col du Vallon de Quarti.

(5) At the pass, continue in the same direction to Lake Fioretta via the Giro del Monviso - stage 04.

(6) Leave the lake on your left and continue in the same direction towards the source of the Po.

(7) Continue to the right towards the north-east, cross the bridge and continue to the Piano del Re mountain hut by the side of the road (E).

The only way back is to retrace this route in the opposite direction, bringing the distance to 12 km over a 4-hour walk. In this case, the hike is classified as moderate with an elevation gain of 695 m.
