Depart from the car park in front of the campsite along Rue du Bassin.
(S/E) Take Rue du Bassin to the crossroads with Rue Porte-Haute and turn left (north-west) for 100 m.
(1) At the crossroads, continue right for 50 metres, then at the first crossroads of vineyard paths (marked with a blue cross), turn left and climb up through the vineyards for about 350 metres. At the next crossroads, turn right and continue for about 100 metres.
(2) At the crossroads, turn left.
(3) Turn left and take the first path on the right after passing a cross on your left. After 600 metres, you will reach the edge of a forest (near altitude 348). Follow the path downhill along the edge of the forest until you reach a road junction, then turn right.
(4) Immediately turn left onto the path marked with a blue cross. After 150 m uphill, take the path on the left.
(5) At the junction with the access road to the Hagueneck Tower, follow the road on the right uphill to the Hagueneck Tower car park. Cross the car park to the path leading to the tower.
(6) Make a round trip to the left to visit the tower.
(6) On your return, take the path marked with a blue cross (Herzog Trail) on the left and enjoy a pleasant climb through the forest along a hairpin bend path.
(7) At the crossroads, take the path on the right downhill.
(8) At this junction, take the path on the left, climbing until you reach the access road to Hohlandsbourg Castle.
(9) At the junction with the south car park of the castle, take the private road leading to Hohlandsbourg Castle.
(10) Descend via the path that starts north of the platform in front of the castle entrance. Continue to the north car park below the castle.
(11) At the far end of the north car park, take a path that climbs briefly to the left. Follow this path along the edge of the cliff before joining a forest track (marked with a red triangle) and continue along it for about 400 metres. Before a large bend to the left of the main track, pass in front of the Fontaine de la Dame fountain by taking a path that descends to the right.
(12) At the Fontaine de la Dame shelter, take a forest path on the left that climbs to the right. Continue for about one kilometre.
(13) Take a path on the left that climbs (GR® 532 - marked with a yellow and white rectangle). This path passes under the Rocher Turenne.
(14) At the top, take the path on the right. Shortly afterwards, at the Y-junction, there are two options for reaching Stauffen:
- to the right via the northern slope with beautiful views of the Munster valley,
- or left via the southern slope.
The route via the wilder northern slope is described below (follow the yellow and white rectangle markings).
(15) Continue right on the pleasant forest path (GR® 532 - yellow rectangle markings). Follow this forest path for about 1.3 km to the Abri du Stauffenmatt (clearing with picnic tables at the crossroads of several paths).
(16) At the shelter, immediately turn left onto a path marked with a yellow cross, which runs parallel to the forest path leading to the clearing.
(17) After about 1.5 km, take a path marked with a yellow cross on the right and join a road that you must cross near the 3 Châteaux car park. Follow the edge of the road to the right. You will come to the car park for the 3 châteaux. Cross the car park and take the path marked with yellow circles to the 3 châteaux. Follow the signs for 250 m to reach the first château.
(18) Visit the three castles one after the other and retrace your steps to begin the descent via the yellow circle marked trail, turning left at the tower marking thefirst castle visited at the start. Descend via a pleasant trail on the left, following the signs for "Husseren-les-Châteaux" (red disc markings).
(19) Immediately above the first houses of Husseren-les-Châteaux, at the crossroads, turn left to go directly to Eguisheim, following the red ring markings.
Descend below the forest and cross the vineyards above the village of Eguisheim. Continue to the junction of Rue Porte Haute and Rue du Bassin. Turn right onto the latter and continue for a few hundred metres to reach the car park at the Eguisheim campsite (S/E).
