The Quarry Trail

A walk through the wild countryside around Castries, not far from Montpellier. You will discover quarries and some particularly interesting sculptures. You will walk through the undergrowth. An amazing route with many surprises in store.
The village of Castries, its castle, aqueduct and varied forests

The first third of the hike will take you to the castle, its large park and a small part of the old village. The rest of the hike will take you through various forests, a mixture of heath, pine forests, olive groves, etc. Along the way, you will cross the famous aqueduct several times, as well as some lesser-known places such as La Capelette and the old quarries.

This peaceful walk partly follows the Castries Aqueduct, built by Paul Riquet (architect of the Canal du Midi) and completed in 1676. This structure supplied water to the Château de Castries via 7 km of tunnels, trenches and aqueducts.
This hike also allows you to discover the ruins of the Pont des Tourilles bridge over the Cadoule, a remarkable little chapel, the Fondespierre departmental estate and a small drystone shelter nestled in a dry stone wall.
The tour of Bannières via the small paths

This hike takes you on a grand tour of the Bannières plain. The old Pont des Tourilles bridge, the Source du Boulidou spring, the ruins of the Templar farm and, above all, varied forests and flora will be along the way.
This route deliberately takes small, unmarked and little-used paths.
Therefore, although the description may be sufficient, it is advisable to use the GPS function of the Visorando app to monitor your progress during the hike.
Du château de Montlaur au Ruisseau du Braou
Du charmant petit hameau de Montlaur, on chemine parmi le vignoble et les oliveraies entrecoupés de bosquets. Depuis la crête de Coste Bertine, la vue s'étend au Sud vers le littoral et jusqu'au Ventoux à l'Est. On termine par la visite des ruines de ce fantastique château.

A hike along varied paths (heathland, undergrowth) starting from Montaud (Hérault) and passing along the edge of Saint-Bauzille-de-Montmel. It offers views of the ruins of Montlaur Castle nearby.
On the Grand Devès path from Guzargues

A visit to the Grand Devès site from Guzargues. This hike will take you around Serre Rond, a hill combining heath and history, which was home to a German observation post from 1942 to 1944, the remains of which can still be seen today. Along the way, you will find the grave of the tracking dog Youki. You will then continue on your way towards Montaud and the source of the Cadoule before returning to your starting point.
On the trail of the Romans

This walk devoted to the discovery of Roman ruins will introduce you to two medieval Languedoc villages.The scrubland will bring you the fragrance of thyme and the landscapes will enchant photographers. Enjoy without moderation.

A pleasant, easy hike. Mostly on paths, sometimes on small roads. Landscapes of garrigue, vines and woods. Several mills line the route. You must make a short round trip to the Vidourle to admire them and enjoy the river's restful calm (on this day!!).

A very pleasant hike in the Bois de Paris through heath and holm oak trees to beautiful viewpoints over the Cévennes.

In the heathland hinterland between Sommières and Quissac, this wild, wooded hill dominates the Vidourle valley and offers a beautiful view to the south, all the way to the sea.

Candillargues, Étang de l'Or

At the eastern end of the Étang de Mauguio, a multitude of marshes separated by canals are home to all kinds of birds from the Petite Camargue, a protected site of the Étang de l'Or.
Please note: access to the marshes is closed from 1 April to 30 June so that the birds can lay and hatch their eggs in peace.
Water wheels from Salinelles

Enjoy a pleasant family walk along the Vidourle river to discover two mills with their fords and two magnificent water wheels, one of which has a wash house, which once punctuated the rhythm of life in days gone by.
The Chapel of Aleyrac and the Cammaous Bridge

This short hike, located between the villages of Fontanès and Vacquières, crosses the famous vineyards of Pic Saint-Loup and forests of pine and holm oak, leading you to a superb chapel listed as a historic monument and the 11th-century Pont des Cammaous bridge.
Around the Bois de Clapisse

A short walk in a rural setting alternating between undergrowth and viewpoints.
You will discover its wild heath, which has always been used by man for food crops and sheep grazing, and oak wood for the production of charcoal and glassware.
