Depart from the car park at the top of the Route des Crêtes. From La Ciotat (10-minute drive from the town centre).
(S/E) Take the path that runs alongside the road leading to the Bec de l'Aigle semaphore (military semaphore located at the end of the cliff).
(1) Walk around it to enjoy the 180° view from the Îles du Riou (Marseille) to Cap Sicié (marking the entrance to the harbour of Toulon).
Then head north-west and follow the ridges to the top of the cape (altitude 394 metres).
(2) From this highest point, the summit of the hike overlooks the highest cliff in the western Mediterranean. Continue to the viewpoint on the edge of the Route des Crêtes.
(3) Enjoy the beautiful view of the limestone creeks. This spot is also located above a popular climbing route. Then descend carefully onto the road and, at the next hairpin bend, take the path on the right. You will reach Bau Rous and Vallon de Mallombre.
(4) Continue to the right. Cross a small scree slope (be careful not to slip on the descent). You will then arrive at the first cave and the famous arch.
(5) Pass under the arch and join the path that then branches off to the right and climbs up along the cliff. Be careful on this route, which is close to the cliff. You will then reach the road. Follow it (with caution) to the car park where you started (S/E).
GPS is strongly recommended.
