Saint-Gilles-les-Forêts walks

During a short climb and a small circular route, Mont Gargan, a memorial site steeped in history, offers landscapes of moors and woods, unobstructed views and heritage.

An easy route with magnificent views of Forsac Castle and the village of Masseret. You will pass by Font Faure, a devotional fountain that is the site of a pilgrimage where the clothes of the sick are placed on the cross. The fountain is located in the beautiful and large forest of the same name, part of which is a hunting reserve, near Forsac.

Meuzac welcomes you for a walk rich in natural heritage (Limousin bocage and forests) and architectural heritage (fortified Romanesque church). You will come across numerous ponds, including the Plan d'Eau de la Roche (swimming) and the Plan d'Eau de Forgeneuve (water skiing). Don't miss the Père Castor media library. Throughout the walk, you will find a series of questions and answers (the question on one signpost, the answer on the next).

A mini-hike to discover the remarkable heritage of the hamlet of Murat: the Moulin de Travers site, the beautiful Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens church, a beautiful carved cross and two very beautiful oak trees.

Actual time: 1 hour 45 minutes A short hike from Bugeat, along the Vézère river through the woods, very pleasant in summer as it is well shaded. You will discover the meanders of the Vézère along a narrow path right by the river. Not very practicable in winter as it is very wet.

The route crosses streams and hamlets, allowing you to discover beautiful sites such as the cup-marked rocks of the Bois de Cholet, the Château de Mazeau and the castrum of Puy Murat. At the end of the hike, take the time to stroll around the pretty village of Tarnac, which has a remarkable church, fountain and Sully oak tree.

A long walk to discover the hydroelectric schemes on the Vienne that led to the creation of the Servières and Chammet lakes. Tarnac, our starting point, is a beautiful village on the Plateau de Millevaches with a church, a fountain and a remarkable oak tree.

A very beautiful hike that takes you back to the source of the Vienne near the village of Servières and across the Chandouille on wooden bridges and granite stone bridges.

A pleasant hike leading to the summit of Knoll Mary, which overlooks the Freysselines cirque and the Ganezande Pond. At the summit, equipped with an orientation table, there are beautiful views of the surrounding area.

Prepare your calves and set off to conquer the Monèdières peaks, pushing your limits. A hike that is as breathtaking as it is exhausting. Beautiful forests and superb panoramic views. Bring a spare pair of socks: there are a few streams to cross. A few kilometres of road in total (~5), but very, very little traffic.

A magnificent walk overlooking the Vézère river, following the route of the old "Paris Orléans Corrèze" railway line on the way there, returning on the other bank along the Vézère and crossing the old town of Uzerche.

The route first climbs towards Puy Chammard on a quiet road with clear views of Uzerche. After that, it mainly follows paths to make a large circular route around Espartignac, crossing the Troh stream several times. This part offers clear views towards Les Monédières. The route ends along the Vézère river.

Faux-la-Montagne owes its name to its high altitude (over 700 metres above sea level) on the western edge of the Millevaches plateau. Around Lake Faux, beech and oak trees mingle with conifers, occupying what was still sheep pasture in the 19th century.

This two-stage route of 2 x 18 km will take you on a journey of discovery around one of the largest artificial lakes in France. You can expect to see mid-mountain landscapes, varied vegetation including fir forests, moors and peat bogs, and wild flora and fauna on this tour of Lake Vassivière, commonly known as "Little Canada". The highlight of the route: a stopover at the Pourvoirie du Lac stopover lodge (accommodation, breakfast and dinner with a panoramic view of the lake).

This first stage takes you through unspoilt countryside, with a route that is both wild and surprising.

A beautiful outing in the Monédières, starting with the ascent of the knoll at May (900m) and the descent into the Puy de Chauzeix forest, leading to the Étang de Ganezande.

The dam is complemented by the Auchaise dyke, which seals off a depression in the ground on the right bank about 400m from the main structure. This reservoir also receives water diverted from the upper basins of the Taurion (La Vaud-Gelade), Vienne, Dorat and Chandouille (Faux-la-Montagne) rivers.

Chassagnas, of Latin origin, Cassania or Gallic Cassanus, refers to the oak tree. Chassagnas consists of a wooded slope down to the edge of Lake Vassivière and a partially cleared summit offering a 180° view of the lake.The Chassagnas peninsula, jutting out into the heart of Lake Vassivière, forms the boundary between Creuse and Haute-Vienne. Together with its twin, the Puy du Rocher, which overlooks Vauveix, it acts as a barrier between the lake's two main bays.

Peat bogs develop in granite basins called alveoli, where the acidic, poor soil provides favourable conditions for their growth. These fragile environments are home to a specific flora composed of very particular primitive plants: sphagnum mosses. The different stages are visible here: low marshes covered with quaking bogs, active raised bogs, and peat heaths bordered by willows and birches.

In Haute-Corrèze, in the heart of nature, an easy family hike.

A short walk around the magnificent restored village of Clédat, in the middle of the Larfeuil Forest. With its church, fountains and stone-built thatched cottages, Clédat will take you on a trip back through time.

Hike in the Vézère gorges starting from Vigeois, a charming little village where you can see a magnificent 11th-century abbey church, destroyed and rebuilt in 1489 after the Hundred Years' War. On this route, you will pass the old hospital (1840), cross the old bridge (12th century, known as the Pont des Anglais) and walk around half-timbered houses. A little further on, you will find an old carding mill.

The village of Royère-de-Vassivière was established on a strategic pass on the Millevaches plateau, at the crossing point of a prehistoric ridge path. The ridge paths (or pouges) allowed people to travel long distances. They favoured the granite peaks of the rounded hills, called Puy or Peux, and avoided the damp, peaty valley bottoms that only cattle frequented.

An easy and pleasant path in all weathers. It offers views of numerous horses in the pastures surrounding the Chignac estate.

A very shaded walk, recommended on hot days. The Étang du Merle is the lovely surprise of this walk.
