Boucle de la Chapelle Saint-Dulcet

A very pleasant loop in the Monédières, with many sections in the forest, leading to the charming and unusual Saint-Dulcet Chapel. A very easy circuit with little elevation gain, making it accessible to all fitness levels.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park along theRoute de Saint-Dulcet (D132E4), before it crosses the Route de Boisse.

(S/E) Head west along Route deSaint-Dulcet. Pass the fishing pond and then the swimming pool on your left and continue along Route de Meilhards. Before a sharp left turn in the road, take a path that branches off to the right (yellow arrow).

(1) At the fork that appears shortly afterwards, take the path on the right (red cross; ignore the one on the left towards the Chapelle Saint-Dulcet). Continue for a long time, heading generally north-west. Cross the hamlet of Ciblac and rejoin the tarmac road.

(2) At the T-junction, follow the road to the left. At the next junction, marked with a stone cross, turn left towards Château de Lafarge.

(3) Just after the sign for Impasse de la Farge, leave the lane and go around Château de Lafarge (private property) on the right. When you reach a farmhouse, turn right and then left to go around it. Then turn left and walk along a pond on your right.

(4) Cross the stream flowing from the pond and go up a path heading south-west. Stay on the main path, which turns left further on. Pass a long building at a place called La Basse Porte.

(5) You will arrive at Route de Meilhards. Follow it to the left. After about 50 metres, leave the road and turn left onto a forest path.

(6) After about 600 metres, turn left and you will immediately reach the Saint-Dulcet Chapel.

(7) Retrace your steps.

(6) Continue east-northeast on the main path.

(1) At the fork you took on the way there, turn right. You will immediately rejoin the Route de Meilhars. Follow it to the left and, taking the same path you took on the way there, return to the car park (S/E).

Worth a visit

Don't leave Chamberet without visiting the village church's treasure, in particular the magnificent 13th-century enamelled shrine depicting the burial ofSaint Dulcet.

Saint Dulcet Chapel. This charming open chapel owes its unusual appearance to its history: destroyed during the Revolution, only part of the roof was rebuilt. The low walls that serve as seats show the location of the old foundations. Dulcet or Dulcide is a saint, bishop of Agen in the 5th century. In 930, his relics, fleeing the Norman invasions, arrived in the church of Chamberet, where he became the patron saint."

A lovely walk through pleasant woodland, with a beautiful view of the Monédières mountains before turning into the avenue leading to Lafarge Castle (point 2, before the cross) with its row of beech trees.
Point 3, at the farmhouse, note the overhanging roof of the first dwelling, then, as you enter the path, where there are still a few oak and fir trees remarkable for their size, on the left are the old kitchens of the youth work camp (explanatory panel) and on the right are the ruins of the old latrines

The forest path has been rebuilt and the ruts have been smoothed out... Nevertheless, in rainy weather it is necessary to have the right footwear for this type of trail!

The forest section is on a path where logging takes place. The path is therefore very uneven and it is very unpleasant to walk on these ruts.
