The start is located after the "Port de Masgrangeas - Le Lac de Vassivière" sign, heading towards Auphelle on the D3A2. Pass the start towards the hamlet of Masgrangeas, then take a large right-hand bend and park at the crossroads with a track on either side of the road. The car park is located at the entrance to the path on the right.
(S/E) When leaving the car park, facing the track leading to Chassagnas, take the road towards Royère-de-Vassivière (D3A2) on the left for about 200 metres.
(1) In the bend, turn right, the road enters the woods and turns left, leaving a road on the right.
(2) At the crossroads, turn right, then left at the next crossroads. Continue straight ahead until you see a sign for the Conservatoire du Littoral.
(3) You can turn left to the small Île de Vauveix, accessible via a footbridge (2 km round trip and tour of Île de Vaux).
(3) On the way back, take the path on the left and continue to the next intersection.
(4) Take the path up to the right and reach the top of the Presqu'île de Chassagnas. Superb view of the lake and its surroundings.
(5) Descend to the left along the edge of the forest to reach the lake shore. Follow the path along the shore to the right until you reach a lane.
(6) Walk along the hamlet of Chassagnas (with a wayside cross on your right) and continue straight ahead to return to the car park (S/E).
