(S/E) The start and finish points are at the north-east corner of the Saint Ferréol basin dyke, near the monument dedicated to Paul Riquet, the designer of the Canal du Midi and the Saint-Ferréol basin, whose water is used to feed the canal
Yellow markings (not very visible) then red and white (GR®).
(S/E) Reach the monument dedicated to Paul Riquet,
(1) Shortly afterwards, turn right, cross Avenue Pierre-Paul Riquet and take the path on the right that descends towards the water feature, in the cool shade.
(2) Cross the small bridge over the stream. Follow the path through the woods until you reach the road.
(3) Turn right onto the D79 and follow it for 1.3 km.
(4) In the middle of the straight road, at a small car park, turn left and head into the woods. The path narrows and climbs steeply at first.
(5) At a fork, turn right and continue climbing. Further on, the track widens. You will leave the forest and come to a small tarmac road, with a wide view of the Lauragais plain.
(6) Turn left onto the small road and continue for about 1 km until you reach the junction with the Laujol farm.
(7) Leave the road and follow a track on the left.
(8) Immediately after the fork, take the right-hand branch and ignore a path on the right. When the path meets another path coming from the right, turn left. At the next crossroads, continue straight ahead and you will reach the highest point.
(9) Exit the woods into a hilly landscape of grasslands. Continue straight ahead, then turn right at the next intersection.
(10) You will reach a small paved road, which you follow for 750 m to the right, passing the Las Tapios farm.
(11) At the T-junction, join theGR®7, which you follow downhill to the left to Saint-Ferréol.
(12) Turn left again to follow the path (GR®7) which goes around the basin to the south.
(13) Cross the dyke at the end of which Paul-Riquet awaits us on his stele.
(1) Return to the car park (S/E).
