Description of the walk

Park near the municipal swimming pool in Revel.

(S/E) At the corner of Port Louis, follow the canal on the right bank. Cross Avenue des Bourdettes and Avenue de Saint-Ferréol, then reach the bridge on Chemin du Pont du Riat. Note: this bridge is shaped like a circumflex accent.

(1) Continue along the stream to reach the Route de Vaudreuille, cross the bridge, and then reach the Maison de la Badorque.

(2) Continue straight ahead for about 250 metres until you reach a path between houses on the right.

(3) Take this path downhill, go through the wooden barriers and continue to Chemin de la Badorque. Cross it, turn left, then immediately right onto Rue Clémence Isaure. At the 6 June 1944 roundabout, cross the D622 and continue straight ahead onto Chemin de Beau Séjour. At the end, turn left and continue until you reach the Voie Verte.

(4) Turn right, cross Avenue de Toulouse, and pass behind the old railway station (Revel Sorèze).

(5) Continue along this road until you reach the crossroads at the old gatekeeper's house.

(6) Cross Avenue des Frères Arnault and turn right onto Chemin de la Farguette until you reach Route de Castres. Cross this road with caution as it is dangerous. Follow it to the left. Pass the Citroën garage and turn right onto Chemin de la Roumenguière, then immediately right onto Rue Abricot du Laudot. Follow this road and continue along the grassy path until you reach Rue George Sand. Continue along this street, cross Rue Châteaubriand, then head towards the small metal bridge.

(7) Just before this bridge, turn right and follow the stream straight ahead, cross Rue Albert Camus, then Rue Lamartine. You will arrive at Rue Montaigne.

(8) Cross it and take Rue Voltaire opposite. At Rue Baudelaire, turn left, then right into Avenue Blaise Pascal, until you reach the roundabout on Avenue de Sorèze. Pass the carved stone, cross Avenue de Sorèze, pass the Moulin du Roy, and you will reach the swimming pool car park (S/E).

Worth a visit

(S/E) Port Louis: basin dug by Paul Riquet in 1668 to allow small boats to access the canal. The Rigole de la Plaine was used to supply water to the Canal du Midi created by Pierre-Paul Riquet.
(1) Pont du Riat: note that this bridge is shaped like a circumflex accent. At its base, a sloping ramp provides access to a kind of quay where washerwomen used to wash their clothes.
(2) Maison de la Badorque: former official accommodation for employees and guards of the canal and its locks.
(4) Voie Verte: this is the old railway line, which opened in 1865 and closed permanently in 1985, connecting Castelnaudary to Castres.
Between (6) and (7): Rue Abricot du Laudot owes its name to a local horse famous for its many national victories in harness racing.
Between (8) and (S/E): at the roundabout, the carved stone was used to calibrate the water supplied to the town for fountains, watering and cleaning. Further on, you will find the Moulin du Roy, built by Pierre-Paul Riquet in 1670 to compensate for the removal of the six mills located downstream.

A pleasant little stroll along the canal and an interesting discovery for many people of the greenway,
which was enjoyed by our group of retired walkers.
Be careful when crossing the Castres road.
