Saint-Arcons-d'Allier walks

A beautiful long loop, rich in scenery and built heritage, on the heights of the Allier.

A pleasant circular loop on the west bank of the Allier. From the Costet bridge north of Langeac to the viewpoint on the Biot cliff, with a detour through the charming villages of Truchon and Cerzat. Stops at beautiful stretches of river where you may see fly fishers. Return to the car park along the river.

Starting from Le Vernet, this walk offers beautiful panoramic views of the Devès at the summit of La Durande.

Set off to explore the pretty little village of Cerzat, with its oven, church and wash house. Along the way, you'll enjoy beautiful views of Margeride and the plateau. The highlight of the walk is entering the Pié du Roi volcano and discovering the small lake that occupies what remains of the crater. You'll love this walk through the nature of the Hautes-Pyrénées.

This circular loop connects two beautiful villages via theGR®®470and small roads (see § Practical information). Added to this loop are a visit to Chilhac, a visit to the Sainte-Croix Priory, and a short loop on the heights of Lavoûte-Chilhac offering beautiful views.

At the start of the route, the Senouire accompanies you to Sainte-Marguerite. After Barbason, the Ribeyrette greets you as it flows into the Senouire. Sainte-Marguerite welcomes you with its history and tranquillity. A superb panorama awaits you at Le Rif. Walk around the hamlet and see the rounded corners of some of the houses. Continue the route towards La Vizade and rejoin the Senouire at Barbanson.

This seventeenth "mountain" stage with significant elevation gain takes you to the village of Monistrol-d'Allier and the troglodyte chapel of La Madeleine, which are must-see sights before arriving in Saugues.

This is a very pleasant walk to enjoy with family or friends. It passes through numerous small hamlets while winding its way along the national road.

This easy hike takes you along theGR® 65 (the famous Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle trail) to discover the chapel and keep of Rochegude, which dominate the Allier valley. Then a beautiful descent through a forest will take you to Pratclaux for a return to the village of Saint-Privat.

From the village of Saint-Privat d'Allier, walk along the Saint-Jacques path to Lac de l'Oeuf, an ancient crater filled with a bog. On the way back, the descent to Dallas and Le Villard will give you distant views of the surrounding area.

A walk to discover the village of Saint-Didier-d'Allier from above. A beautiful descent from Chier to Saint-Didier overlooking the Allier valley, the Rouchoux Gorges and the castle of Saint-Didier.The return to Saint-Privat d'Allier is partly along the road, but it is narrow and very beautiful.

Starting from Saint-Privat-d'Allier, a large mountain village at an altitude of 870 metres, follow this route to discover the imposing Treuil cave, with the added bonus of beautiful views of the Allier Gorges.

This long circular loop offers two very different atmospheres. The first part is spent in the company of pilgrims on the Way of St James, often in groups, some more talkative than others, passing through hamlets marked by this pilgrimage (crosses, statues). In the second part, you will be alone in the world in the vast expanses of the plateau overlooking the Allier valley.The Visorando app is useful on certain sections.

An easy hike with beautiful views, starting from the pretty village of Lavoûte, which will take you to the small village of Chilhac, equally beautiful with its narrow streets, museum and black lava rock formations that store heat and allow Mediterranean plants, rare in Auvergne, to grow.

Circular route on the heights of the Allier, around Monistrol, to discover a chapel overlooking the valley. See the variation in the Practical Information section for a round trip to Château de la Beaume. According to one review, it seems thatthe Visorando app is necessary to follow the route properly.

This route passes through the villages on the eastern side of the Paulhaguet basin called Le Chaliergue. It corresponds to the lower volcanic plateau of Paulhaguet, at around 600 m, drained by the Senouire. The name was once written Callianicum and refers to stones, a stony area; it is also known as the Paulhaguet plateau. The panorama opens up from Jaroussier and Scombalou.

This circular path offers a continuous and exceptional panorama of the Allier valley. The path is made up of rounded stones, where you can sometimes see the tracks of the iron wheels of carts. Although today the landscape is a heath where bushes, broom and prickly pears grow, before the phylloxera attack it was an important vineyard. As you pass through the village of Chazieux and the old town of Saint-Ilpize, you will notice numerous wine cellars. Today, the vineyard is being revived. Vines are planted in the village of Auzat on the left bank and the old grape varieties are preserved in the vine conservatory located before the village of Chazieux.

This is a fairly short walk, but there are two different worlds to discover: in the footsteps of George Sand, the enchanting world of the peat bog nestled in the crater of an ancient Strombolian volcano (unique in Europe) and the medieval village of Allègre with its many remains, including the famous "Potence" (gallows).
