Description of the walk

Start at the bridge over the Desges in the centre of the village of Chanteuges.

(S/E) Carefully cross the D585 departmental road and continue almost directly opposite along Rue de la Gare. Cross the level crossing and take the wide dirt track that climbs to the right (GR® 470 – red and whitemarkings ). Follow ituntil you reach a road in the hamlet ofFéry, after passing the wash house on your right.

(1)Cross the road and continue straight on along a cart track which descends and then climbs again to the Chemin de la Buge; follow this to the right for 20 metres. You’ll reach a junction in the centre of Fromenty with a fountain a little further on, on the right.

(2)Leave the GR® here . Head slightly to the left, then right onto Rue de Vourette, which continues as a narrow, grassy track leading to the tarmac road known as the ‘Route de laBretagnolle’.

(3) Follow it to the left andleave it90 metres further on, taking a track suitable for vehicles on the right. Follow this and ignore a path on the right.

(4) At a junction, turn left onto the GRP® Robe de Bure et Cotte de Mailles ( yellow and red markings ). Follow this GRP® until you reach a green chaleton the left, onChemin de la Croix de Fer.

(5) Leave the GRP® and take this track on the left. Walk past the Bretagnolle fountain.

(6) At the junction 30 metres further on, go straight ahead, take the Route du Coutay leading uphill to the left, then follow it, keeping to the left, towards a dirt track suitable for vehicles. 70 metres past the last house, ignore a sloping track on the left, then 200 metres further on, ignore a path on the left, and after two bends, ignore another path on the left running alongside a field. Continue downhill to the tarmac road at La Combe.

(7) Keep to the left. 330 m further on, when the road bends sharply to the left, leave it straight ahead via a footpath, the Chemin du Devis. Follow this path, which is in very poor condition, to the level crossing. Cross it, go down Rue de la Gare and reach the bridge over the Desges, the starting point (S/E).

Worth a visit

At the top of the Calade Saint-Marcellin, overlooking the village of Chanteuges, you can visit the former abbey – which became a priory until 1787 – with its late11th-century church and its early16th-century chapel.
