Between Chanteuges and Pébrac

The route starts at the bridge over the Desges in the centre of the village of Chanteuges.

(S/E) Cross the D585 county road with care and, turning right then left, continue straight ahead along Rue de la Gare. Cross the level crossing and take the wide dirt track that climbs to the right (GR® 470 – red and whitemarkings ). Follow ituntil you reach a road in the hamlet ofFéry.

(1)Leave the GR® and takethe road leading uphill to the left, heading due south. 170 m further on, pass a road on the right and, 200 m further on, you’ll come to a fork in the road at a left-hand bend.

(2) Leave the road and head right, due south, along the path that climbs through the forest to a wide, carriageable track.

(3) Follow it to the rightas far as the hamlet of LaBretagnolle.

(4) In the centre of the hamlet, carry on straight ahead, pass the fountain and take the wide, gently sloping track immediately on the left.Ignore a track on theleft and continue to the crossroads known as the ‘Croix de Fer’ , where you’ll join the GRP® Robe de Bure et Cotte de Maille (marked with yellow and redsigns ).

(5) Turn left onto the^first path leading down into the woods. Stay on the main path, ignoring the side paths on either side, in particular a wide path on the left followed by a path on the right.

(6) At a fork in the road, go right; then, almost at the bottom of the valley just after a small stream, turn left to pass close to a ruin (Moulin d’Allignon). Cross the Desges via the bridge.

(7) After the bridge, there are three paths leading to the village of Pébrac. Leave the GRP® and take the path on the right, which initially runs alongside the river(heading towards the church; you can visit the church, the abbey courtyard and the abbey garden, which is managed by a local association). In the centre of the village, turn left onto the main road (D30).

(8) On leaving the village, rejoin the GRP®. Take a fairly wide path to the right of a house, which slopes gently downwards. Continue along this beautiful path between the old agricultural terraces. Pass the first path leading down to the left, then a second one, before coming out onto a small road.

(9) Follow this road for a few metres to the right, then head down the path on the left. You’ll come to a junction. Carry on straight ahead, and you’ll soon reach a Fork in the road. Carry on to the left. Ford a stream and arrive at a crossroads. Head straight down to the left to reach the hamlet of Moulin de Digons on the valley’s main road (D30).

(10) Then follow the road to the right, crossing a bridge over the Desges. After 100 metres, leave the road and take the track leading uphill to the left, crossing the hamlet of Belchamp. You’ll rejoin the D30 after the houses.

(11) Just before the bridge, take the track on the left, which immediately splits. Ignore a small path on the left and continue to the right. Ignore a cart track on the left, then, 25 metres further on, a second one on the right, followed by a path on the left, then another path on the left between two houses. Enter the hamlet of Tavernat. At a junction, continue straight ahead, veering slightly to the left, along a very steep street, then take the street on the left.

(12) As you leave the hamlet, at a drinking trough, take a dirt track on the right. After reaching a high point, you’ll come to a Fork in the road. Head down to the right along the grassy track through pastures and woodland. You’ll reach the D30 road.

(13) Turn left onto this road and follow it for a few metres. Just before the bridge over the Rivière de Desges, leave the GRP® – which continues along the road – and take the track on the left. Pass under the railway line and follow the track to the left, which runs alongside the railway line and the Desges (Chemin de la Pelle). Pass two paths branching off to the left under the railway line, and arrive at Rue de la Gare, very close to the level crossing you passed on the way out. Turn right to walk down Rue de la Gare to the D585 road. Cross it carefullyby taking a right-left turn and continue to the bridge over the Desges, the finish point (S/E).

Park at the station car park oron Rue des Moulins (café andtobacconist, bakeryand grocery shop open Tuesday to Saturday, inn).

In Chanteuges, at the top of the Saint-Marcellin paved slanting street, overlooking the village, you can visit the former abbey – which became a priory until 1787 – with its late^11th-century church and early^16th-century chapel.

In Pébrac, starting from the main road (D30) and heading up towards the church, you can visit the^11th-century church, the courtyard of the imposing abbey and its garden.
