Description of the walk

When you arrive, you can easily park near the wash house, your starting point.

(S/E) Turn right, passing in front of the wash house and fountain, and go down the small road (Rue de la Fontaine). Turn right onto Rue du Pié du Roi, and right again at the next junction. Continue to the three-way junction at the end of the tarmac road.

(1) Continue to the right towards the ancient Pié du Roi volcano and its crater. Go to the end of the path for a breathtaking view of the village.

(2) Retrace your steps for about 200 metres, then turn right to avoid going back the same way.

(1) Continue to the right, then take a detour to see the Church of Saint-Sylvestre and its two bell towers.

(3) Join the district road, turn left to pass the wash house and fountain again, then turn right towards the upper part of the village. Pass in front of the town hall and head for the oven: magnificent view.

(4) Continue straight ahead.

(5) Leave the village by taking the path on the right and continue to the crossroads in the middle of the fields at Les Combettes.

(6) Turn left immediately and continue straight ahead, ignoring the adjacent paths, until you reach another crossroads.

(7) Turn left, quickly rejoin the D21 and continue in the same direction for a few dozen metres.

(8) Find a new path on your left and take it: as you return to Cerzat, you will certainly have one of the most beautiful views of Margeride, Cerzat, Pié du Roi and the surrounding countryside. Reach the crossroads not far from the cemetery.

(9) Turn left one last time to return to the village.

(4) Pass the oven again, then walk down to the wash house (S/E).

A bucolic route exploring the surroundings of Cerzat, with its typical stone houses and hamlet, offering some beautiful panoramic views of the surrounding area. The Puy du Roi volcano is not particularly interesting; we did not find a crater but a wetland, and we found ourselves at a dead end after the sign indicating the site, so we climbed the hill of the ancient volcano at the end of the dead end to see the landscape. A short climb through the woods (800 m there and back) to enjoy a commanding view of the village. However, this place must be used as pasture in the summer as there are fences and wire fencing.
Please note that on Cerzat Haut between points 6 and 7, access has been closed and is apparently private, so you must take the "Chemin Peyder" on the right after point 6 and climb up to the road, turn left, then a little further on the left onto the dirt track to return to point 7. As a landmark, there is an isolated house in the middle of a field. Go around it on the right on the way there and on the right on the way back, then at the crossroads of the dirt tracks, turn right towards point 8.
