Rouffiac-d'Aude walks

Rouffiac-d'Aude, located on a promontory, overlooks the Aude valley and marks the boundary of the Malpère. At the top of the trail, you will have a breathtaking view of the Razès, the Pyrenees and the Montagne Noire. You will walk through the woods in the Malpère hills. The path is very well marked with yellow lines and squirrel symbols.

A pleasant route through very hilly terrain. Fields, vineyards and forests alternate throughout the walk.

Once you've conquered the first kilometre, this hike offers superb panoramic views. The path along the ridge allows you to discover beautiful holm oaks, white heather, cotton cistus and many other plants.

In a hilly landscape, this is a beautiful, shaded hike with wildlife in Mediterranean woods composed of holm oaks, pines and heather from the Malpère massif, which means "bad stone". A small circular village on a hilltop in a peaceful, green setting.

A 15-minute drive from Carcassonne, the village of Roullens, perched on a hill, overlooks a stunning landscape, a small part of which you can enjoy.

In the heart of Limouxin, the small village of Cépie offers magnificent views over the Aude valley during this hike.

A beautiful hike, steep at first, which quickly runs along the top of the valley, with a bird's eye view of the village and the surrounding hills. You will then go deeper and deeper into the forest.

This amazing circular takes you through Mediterranean heath and the Blanquette de Limoux vineyards. Starting from the village of Saint-Polycarpe with the remains of its 8th-century Benedictine abbey, the route crosses the communal forest and the village of Villar-Saint-Anselme. At the end of the route, there is an arboretum sponsored by Yves Duteil. The trail is marked with yellow lines and circles.

From the medieval city, which you can visit before or after the walk, it is worth going to the top of Pech Mary to enjoy a 360° panorama of the city and its surroundings, as well as a bird's eye view of the city, particularly Porte Narbonnaise.

Lake Cavayère is the place to visit in Carcassonne when the sun is out. The path around the lake is laid out clearly and is very easy to follow even with children (over ten years). The ever present lake provides a very pleasant setting.

Part of a larger 13km circular, this fairly easy walk allows you to discover two ancient villages and breathe in the tranquillity of the banks of the Canal du Midi.

Legend has it that a beautiful noblewoman from Pennautier would dress up as a wolf at night to meet her lovers along these paths. A lovely walk that follows the Fresquel and continues through fields and vineyards in the countryside west of Carcassonne.

From the village of Monze, looking south-west, you cannot miss the ruins of the Matelbine Tower, perched on its wooded promontory. Through vineyards and pine woods, this hike first leads to a small lake with a picnic area before continuing on to the tower. Finally, the return to Monze offers unobstructed views of the Bretonne valley, where vineyards and cypress hedges create a beautiful scene.

This walk allows you to see reproductions of some of the works of Achille Laugé, a pointillist painter who died in 1944 after returning to the Aude region and who painted many landscapes around Cailhau, his village. There are six display stands showing Achille Lauger's paintings from the place where he created them. Enjoy a short 7 km hike.

The Lacamp plateau overlooking the Val de Dagne offers numerous viewpoints. Heath, communal forest (beech and oak) and state-owned forest (fir and cedar). This trail passes two orientation tables that provide information about the Montagne Noire and the Pyrenees. It led to Bouisse, a day's walk across the Lacamp plateau. On the village square, next to the fountain and at the corner of the old town hall, a sign describing the trail was installed in 2010. Since 2020, the old public toilets have become the smallest museum in the world!

This walk allows you to discover the village of Montréal with its collegiate church, narrow old streets and green, rolling countryside.

Take a walk or bike ride along the Canal du Midi, passing through the river port of Trèbes to the Château de Bouilhonnac.

Loop around Valmigère in the undergrowth, then up to the heights with a beautiful panorama of the Pyrenees and the Pic de Bugarach. The loop is marked with a descriptive sign in front of the town hall and marked in yellow. It is described in an anti-clockwise direction, but I recommend doing it clockwise, as the slopes are gentler on the way up (I did the loop in this direction). The signs indicate a time of 3 hours, which should be taken into account with breaks, as it is not difficult.

Half of the hike is under the trees and half is in the heath.

A large, gentle hill that is easily accessible, Milobre de Bouisse nevertheless rises to an altitude of 878 m and offers a magnificent view of the Corbières, the Canigou massif, Pech de Bugarach and the Ariège Pyrenees. After an open first section dominated by pastures, the route continues through charming valleys where conifers grow alongside numerous deciduous species before returning to the meadows for a final panoramic view.
