Park in the free car park at Place Gaston Jourdanne.
(S/E) Head south-east and, at the end of the Pont Vieux, take Rue Trivalle for 300 metres. Continue on the right along Rue Gustave Nadaud to arrive at the square in front of the entrance to the Cité (Porte Narbonnaise).
(1) Cross this square towards the drawbridge and turn left onto the path below the ramparts and the cemetery. Continue for about 200 metres.
(2) Pass the car park barrier on the left, turn left and then immediately right onto Chemin de Sainte-Croix. Continue straight ahead to reach the Sainte-Croix calvary and then the passage under the ring road.
(3) Go under the bridge and, immediately afterwards, leave Chemin de Sainte-Croix to go up on the left, and continue on the right on Chemin de la Porte de Fer. After 700 metres, leave the path to Les Hauts de Sainte-Croix on your right and continue for about 150 metres to reach the entrance to the Porte de Fer estate.
(4) Turn right onto the path blocked by a forest barrier and continue straight ahead. At the crossroads, turn left (sharp bend) onto Chemin du Réservoir and continue straight ahead until the first bend marked on the left.
(5) Locate the path that branches off to the left, which you will take on the way back. Continue along Chemin du Réservoir, passing Chemin de l'Arboretum on your right, and continue straight ahead. Keep heading north-west until you reach the viewpoint.
(6) Enjoy the view and turn back.
(5) Turn right onto the path that descends. The next 300 metres are full of gullies and are the most technical part of the route, especially after rain.
(7) Go through the forest gate and continue on the tarmac path on the right. Once you reach the Saint-Charles estate on your right, continue on the left on the path of the same name. Continue to the junction with the access road to the ring road.
(8) Leave this access road to the ring road and, at the fork immediately after, take the left branch onto Chemin de Saint-Charles. Follow the ring road on your right, then turn left twice to reach the passageway that allows you to pass underneath.
(3) Go up Chemin de Sainte Croix and, at the cemetery, turn left then right.
(2) Go back through the barrier of the Cité's parking lot. Turn left, walk 300 metres and turn right to return to the Cité's ramparts.
(9) Take the spiral staircase on the left with about ten steps, then go down the alley on the right with large landings and continue along Rue Petite Côte de la Cité. Then turn right into Rue de la Barbacane and go straight ahead. At the end of the street, with the Pont Vieux in sight, turn right, cross the bridge and you will find yourself at Place Gaston Jourdanne (S/E).
