Ramillies (Belgique) walks

A bucolic walk steeped in history, following in the footsteps of Marlborough.

Enjoy the fresh air in the rolling countryside south of Jodoigne.Fields and crops await you.Things to see along the route: a few chapels, Dongelberg Castle (a kind of local coliseum that has suffered the ravages of time), a cross commemorating a former French military cemetery, in the distance the twisted bell tower of the Chapel of Notre-Dame-du-Marché on the Grand-Place in Jodoigne, the pretty village of Jauchelette.

Almost exclusively rural, this circular takes you through the hilly part of Hesbaye, straddling the provinces of Liège and Walloon Brabant. A few old mills dot the route: the one at Jauche-la-Marne, which the route bypasses, and those at Petit-Hallet, which can be seen from a little further away. In Orp-le-Petit, the Grande Ferme (18th century), the Pilori, the Château Rose and the rail adventure are likely to catch your interest. Along the way, it is not uncommon to flush out a hare (literally), spot a pheasant or scare off a heron or egret.

A peaceful walk, both rural and countryside, along the banks and immediate surroundings of the Mehaigne and its tributary, the Soile, between the villages of Avin and Meeffe, passing through Ambresin. The most pleasant section is undoubtedly the one that runs alongside the Mehaigne (known asthe"Sentier de la Mouhagne"), but the country lanes, lined with tall hedges that provide ideal shade along the route, also have their charm.

The Fort des Voiles, also known as Ferme Rose for obvious reasons, was successively used as a glass furnace, a flour mill and a fish farm (trout).The name Fort des Voiles is thought to come from a distortion of "for à voires", which in Walloon means "glass furnace".In the 17th century, the glass industry required a lot of wood, which would explain its geographical location.The fish farm was created a little further down, along the Ruisseau du Glabais stream, and operated from 1950 until around 2000, when the presence of beavers and a sewage treatment plant, located upstream of the stream and inadequately protected against flooding, forced the owners to cease operations for health reasons.The current buildings date from the 1920s.

Route of the unmarked route used for training walks organised by the "Les Spartiates de Gembloux" club. It takes place in the vicinity of Saint-Denis.

Starting from the church of Saint-Rémi in Franc-Waret, the walk takes you to discover the magnificent Château de Franc-Waret, the countryside of Gelbressée and Boninne, as well as a few other sites in the region, such as the Fort de Marchovelette and the Ferme de la Vache.

A walk to discover the village of Emines, its surrounding woods and streams. Take advantage of this easily accessible walk to discover several points of interest such as the place known as La Bruyère, the bucolic Pont de Seumoy bridge, or the Drève Clément. Rural landscape, half road, half footpaths. An unmissable route for locals!

A very beautiful walk. Starting near the Nodebais pond. Passing by a few houses decorated by local artists (ceramics on the facades) then along paths through the countryside. There are few roads on this walk, mainly country lanes.

Marked walking route no. 4 with the blue rectangle marker This 10 km walk takes you on a discovery of the village of Vezin and its countryside. You start your route at the car park of the Vezin Sports Complex.

This beautiful walk in the northern hills of the Meuse starts at the car park of the Sclaigneaux Nature Reserve.At the start, there is a lovely view of the Meuse valley, limestone grasslands, orchids in season, old quarries and sand pits.Skirting the Bois des Douze Bonniers, the trail begins at km 3 on a steep path leading up to the agricultural plateau of Landenne. Caution: very slippery in wet weather.A short detour on the way back allows you to admire the Château-Ferme du Chant d'Oiseaux, where you can buy a few local products on a self-service basis.

Marked walking route no. 5 with the red rectangle marker This hike of almost 3 km takes you on a journey of discovery through the flora and fauna of the Sclaigneaux Nature Reserve. A listed site and NATURA 2000 area, the Reserve impresses with its wild beauty and the variety of ecosystems it brings together in a relatively small area (around 50 hectares). During your walk, you will see three ecosystems: heathland, limestone grasslands and forest. If you wish, there is a longer 5 km route. If you continue towards Loyisse, you will leave the Reserve and descend into the valley. You then follow the stream back up via the paths and road. You cross a small ford before reaching a pretty forest path that takes you back to the Reserve and your starting point.

Marked walking trail no. 5 with red rectangle markings This 5 km hike takes you on a journey of discovery through the flora and fauna of the Sclaigneaux Nature Reserve. A listed site and NATURA 2000 area, the Reserve impresses with its wild beauty and the variety of ecosystems it brings together in a relatively small area of around 50 hectares. During your walk, you will see three ecosystems: heathland, limestone grasslands and forest. If you wish, there is a shortcut that allows you to avoid the steep paths of the Loysse valley. This will reduce the walk from 5 km to just 3 km. If you continue towards Loysse, you will leave the Reserve and descend into the valley. You will then follow the stream back up via the paths and road. You will cross a small ford before reaching a pretty forest path that will take you back to the Reserve and your starting point.

Your route begins at the Reserve, where you will encounter the three ecosystems for which it is renowned: heathland, limestone grasslands and forest.
