(S/E) From the port of Beez, turn right along the N 959 and cross the bridge over the railway line.
Please note: this section runs alongside a road with almost no shoulder for a short distance, so take care.
Immediately after the bridge, turn left and go through the barrier. The path runs alongside the railway tracks on one side and the bottom of the climbing routes on the other. The area is popular with climbers. At the end of the path, turn right and follow the green marked trail.
(1) The path climbs towards the top of the rocks, following a small valley. Although not particularly difficult, the slope is quite long and will work your calves as you tackle almost the entire elevation gain of the route in one go.
(2) Take a path on the right that is almost a hairpin bend and pass in front of a small bench. The trail continues through the woods to reach the top of the cliffs a little further on.
(3) The path runs along the cliffs at a safe distance. The vegetation prevents you from seeing the Meuse valley. At this point, a few small paths allow you to get closer. Feel free to explore carefully.
You will reach the Green Rectangle marked trail, which you will follow for a short distance.
(4) Turn right. This path leads to the top of the tracks at the Marche-les-Dames para-commando training centre. Numerous cables and ropes placed there for military exercises provide a welcome handrail in places to help you navigate the slightly uneven but very accessible terrain. The view is a beautiful reward.
(5) You can turn right to reach the other end of a rope bridge you crossed earlier (it is obviously not recommended to use it...) and enjoy a new view of the valley before rejoining the main trail.
(6) Continue straight ahead on the path, which descends slightly. Join the Via Mosana on the right as you descend. The path quickly leaves the woods and reaches the houses.
(7) At the end of the path, turn right onto Rue Notre-Dame du Vivier and continue through the village, descending alongside the military estate. Please note that the pavements are narrow or non-existent, so take care on this section.
The street runs alongside the grounds of the former Arenberg Castle to join the N 959.
(8) Cross the road and turn left for a few metres to reach the restaurant car park. A small staircase leads down under the tracks. Pass under the railway line and turn right onto the towpath. The return journey follows the Meuse to the Port of Beez (S/E).
