The Mehaigne and its surroundings between Avin and Meeffe via Ambresin

(S/E) Take Rue du Mohéry and follow it to No. 18, where it makes a 90° turn: go around the small monument and take the path on the left (at 90°!) running alongside a field and a group of trees. Follow it to the end to reach Route des Mottes.

(1) Follow it to the right for about 500 m. After numbers 18 and 20 (hidden), turn left onto the concrete path and follow it to the stream (bridge, information board).

(2) Before the bridge, turn onto the path on the left that runs alongside the stream (Mehaigne). Follow it to the end, taking care to stay on the right bank (three streams are successively crossed by a duckboard). At the end, the path briefly crosses a cluster of taller trees and then leads to a slightly wider path, which you take to the right to soon cross the Mehaigne and end up on a tarmac lane (Sentier de la Meunerie).

(3) Take the tarmac road on the left and follow it to the end to reach Rue les Moyères, which you take on the left. Follow it for 600 m. This street is lined with houses, many of which are recent. It leads to the centre of the hamlet (la Waloppe) and becomes Rue de Neuville.

(4) Immediately after No. 12 on this street, turn left onto Rue des Mésanges. This street soon curves to the right and then leads to a larger street. Cross it and continue straight ahead onto Rue du Bosquet ( dead end sign visible). At the end, first turn right then left to emerge onto Avenue des Pommiers.

(5) Follow it to the left until the next crossroads (you will pass in front of the Ambersin school).

(6) 100 metres after the school, turn left into Rue du Champ des Oiseaux. This street crosses the Mehaigne river and then winds its way through fields and meadows (after passing the Saint-Donat Nature Reserve, built on the site of the former sugar factory), running parallel to the Mehaigne river. Follow this road to the end to reach the village of Meeffe at Rue Grande.

(7) Turn left onto this street, cross the stream (the Soile) and then turn immediately left onto Rue de la Tannerie. This street continues as a farm track. At a meadow, the track turns right and leads to a larger farm track. Follow it to the left until you reach the hamlet of La Waloppe.

(8) In the centre of the hamlet (small chapel), continue straight ahead, then straight ahead again into Rue d'Avin. This road runs alongside Avin Castle (barely visible from the road, except for the gate) and then leads to the village cemetery.

(9) At the cemetery, turn left onto the concrete path on the right that leads to the church. Walk along the left side of the church and take the small paved path that leads back to Rue du Mohéry and the starting point (S/E).
