Porrentruy walks

During this third stage, you will cross the historic town of Porrentruy. As you leave the town, the path runs along the edge of the woods before starting the climb to the Chalet des Chainions (Chalet des Amis de la Nature). The route then continues along a ridge before descending towards the hamlet of Seleute. As you approach Saint-Ursanne, you can admire the Clos du Doubs and its rocky massifs. You will enter the historic town of Saint-Ursanne through the Porte Saint-Paul.

This is a beautiful hike that has the advantage of being in Switzerland, where hunting is closed on Sundays. The upper part of the route is on a wide ridge with sunny pastures and a picnic area with two tables. There are a few viewpoints on the north side overlooking the L'Ajoie plain with the Vosges mountains in the background. On the other side, you can see the Haut-Doubs and the Jura mountains, including the famous Chasseral. In between, there is plenty of nature to enjoy, with a good portion of the walk taking place in the shade of the trees, which is very pleasant in hot weather.

This is a pleasant hike on the French-Swiss border, starting from Villars-le-Sec near Delle, 30 km south-east of Belfort. It is very easy to access via the 1019 expressway. You will enjoy cultivated countryside and forest landscapes with beautiful views of Saint-Dizier-l'Evêque, the Vosges and the Swiss plateau. You will discover a natural curiosity, "les Pas du Diable" (the Devil's Steps), and numerous border markers engraved with the Bernese bear and the fleur-de-lis. The route is signposted.

A very pretty hike that allows you to discover this small village with its superb church and beautiful vineyard. The historical past is well highlighted with numerous information panels: in the church, at Au pas du Diable and at the small chapel. The route is marked with a yellow ring.

During this fourth stage, you will walk along the banks of the Doubs to Tariche. You will cross the Doubs on a self-service boat. Then you will follow a ridge overlooking the Delémont valley and the Doubs. You will take the very pleasant Combe du Bé to reach Glovelier.

This long hike through fields and forests allows you to discover the peaceful Sundgau region of Belfort, walk along ponds and flirt with the Swiss Jura. The trail is marked with a yellow ring.

This superb hike allows you to discover the village of Lebetain and the surrounding valleys with their typical Jura landscape. The starting point is near the Swiss border, close to Delle, 25 km from Belfort via the expressway. My favourite part: a very pretty section through the middle of a pasture in a narrow valley with a small stream and numerous little waterfalls. However, there is a fairly difficult section with a steep path for about 50 metres. The hike is signposted .

Climb up to Roc au Corbeau, which straddles the French-Swiss border.

A lovely hike in the Faverois area, 30 km south-east of Belfort. You will discover a charming village, landscapes of fields and forests with beautiful ponds. In spring and autumn, you can observe many migratory birds.

This is a very pleasant hike that alternates between forest and countryside landscapes. There are lovely views of the Swiss Jura and the Southern Vosges. The paths you will take are steeped in history. In fact, you will be walking along the paths where smugglers accompanied fugitives during the Second World War. The route is marked with a blue disc.

This is a pleasant hike starting from Abbévillers near the Swiss border, 20 km south-east of Montbéliard and 30 km from Belfort. You will enjoy beautiful countryside and forest landscapes and stunning views of the Swiss Jura. Halfway along the route, you can admire the source of the Doue, which is a resurgence at the bottom of a cliff. The site is very well laid out with a mill currently undergoing renovation and numerous information panels. At the end, you can admire the border markers.

A superb hike in the south of the Belfort area in the foothills of the Jura. Exceptional views over the Bas Pays de Montbéliard and the southern Vosges mountains. You will also discover the charming village of Montbouton, 25 km from Belfort and 7 km from Audincourt. This hike is signposted.

A lovely hike in the Joncherey area near Delle, 25 km south-east of Belfort. Easy access via the N1019 expressway. You will discover a charming village, landscapes of fields and forests, and the Étang du Verchat lake with its tree houses. This hike is marked with a red ring.

This bucolic, often shaded walk will take you past a myriad of carved stone markers adorned with inscriptions from yesteryear. The route is signposted.

The landscapes you pass through here are among the most beautiful in the Sundgau region. The rock shelter of Mannlefelsen, a major Mesolithic site in Alsace, precedes the Ebourbettes, which tell the story of General Giraud's escape in 1942. Further on, the ruins of Morimont offer an interesting history lesson on how a medieval castle was adapted to firearms.

The hike has been modified and no longer passes by the Ferme de la Vacherie. A lovely little walk, mostly on fairly wide paths, leading to beautiful viewpoints and sites of historical interest such as the Mannlefelsen caves and Morimont Castle. There is a slight incline on the first part of the route to add a little spice to this easy hike.

The walk begins at the site of Lucelle Abbey, isolated from the hustle and bustle of the world. The monastery was once a shining beacon and its history can still be seen in the few remaining buildings. From here, a Swiss getaway allows you to discover a curious rock shelter suspended above the river's source. You then climb back up to the plateau overlooking a valley enclosed between two wooded ridges and crossed by the winding waters of the Lucelle.

This is a pleasant hike where you will come across old farms and large boundary markers marking the Swiss border through a beautiful pine forest and, above all, the Abbaye de Lucelle, better known today as the "Centre Européen de Rencontres" (European Meeting Centre).

Kilometre Zero is the starting point of the front line established during theFirst World War. It is located on the current French-Swiss border, at a place called Le Largin. The Kilometre Zero trail explores three sections of the front line, the first kilometres of the French and German fronts, and the Swiss front at Le Largin, established along the border opposite the no man's land where boundary marker No. 111, considered the zero point of the Great War front line, is located.

In Damas, the "village of 600 mayors", you are always welcomed with a smile and a friendly greeting. They offer us a pleasant little walk through the streets of the village to discover their fountains, their listed natural site and a wide panorama of the village, the Pays de Montbéliard and the Vosges.

A beautiful walk in the canton of Jura from the charming village of Bourrignon, passing by high-altitude farms, La Caquerelle at the junction between the Delémont valley, Ajoie and Clos du Doubs, Col des Rangiers and Les Ourdons. All these places offer wide open spaces with magnificent panoramic views of the Jura, Alps and Vosges mountains. Very pleasant in all seasons.

This last stage will take you to the capital of the Franches-Montagnes district, renowned for its horse breed. On leaving Glovelier, you will cross the Combe Tabeillon nature reserve. You will pass several small lakes, including the pleasant Plain de Saigne. You will cross the village of Montfaucon, built on a ridge. You will cross pastures where many horses graze before arriving in Saignelégier.

Short excursion from Grandvillars to the remarkable lime tree

From the castle ruins, you will climb up to the ledges where, like tightrope walkers from one border marker to the next, you will walk along the ridge line, neither in France nor in Switzerland. You will reach the Réclère Caves, considered the most beautiful in the world by the first explorers in 1886. From Journey to the Centre of the Earth by Jules Verne to Conan Doyle's The Lost World, you will squeeze between dinosaur feet. The return journey, via the old farmhouse at Montavon, will be less adventurous.

Speaking of this part of the Sundgau, André Gide wrote:"One is constantly surprised, as one crosses the forest, to find oneself in the presence of an unsuspected sheet of water, mysteriously asleep in the shelter of the beech forests; rushes adorn narrow sandy beaches at the edge of large fields of water lilies. There are also several reminders of the First World War and the front line that separated Largitzen from Bisel.

Friesen boasts an exceptional array of half-timbered houses built between 1499 and 1876. Thanks to meticulous inventory work, the walk allows you to see many reminders of a rural world that disappeared forever after the Second World War. A country lane then leads to the Notre-Dame de Grünenwald chapel and Ueberstrass, following in the footsteps of the Knights of Malta.

This is the last stage before the start of the Grande Traversée du Jura. The hike is mainly through forest, crossing the woods of Sochaux, Fays and Goutils. At the end of the stage, you can explore the village of Thulay. Halfway along the route, there are shops where you can buy supplies in Seloncourt. There are also some interesting viewpoints along the way.

Starting from Les Blanches-Fontaines south of Undervelier (Canton of Jura), this hike offers a magnificent ascent of the Sorne river and its gorges dotted with several waterfalls, passing by Lac Vert, all in a wild environment, to the hamlet of Pichoux, then climbing up to the plateau overlooking the gorges to enjoy a magnificent view. Continue along the plateau via Rebévelier, then a moderately pleasant descent down the Côte de Tirmenté to the Combe des Beusses. Return to the lush vegetation at the bottom of the valley via the Combe es Monin (home to a private foundation dedicated to children), then a short climb to Blanche Maison with another beautiful view of the landscape and a hilly descent passing above the Pré de Joux, then through several pastures towards Undervelier. Short link along the road, climbing up the Sorne to the start.

Coming from Goumois (Switzerland), park at the end of the Vautenaivre leat, next to a small rest area (with barbecue).

15 km south-east of Belfort, 4 km from the TGV station, Bourogne is a town that combines modern development with a rich historical past. This short walk through the village and forest will allow you to discover a rich heritage with several beautiful buildings, superb fountains and the ruins of the castle. Information panels help you appreciate these treasures. Another special feature of the route is the petrifying spring.
