Saint-Ursanne - Glovelier

For ease of description, the following annotations are used:
Sign R: Yellow sign with hiker pictogram.
Sign No. 31: Yellow multi-directional sign with green sticker No. 31.
Important: before setting off, consult the Practical Information section, under the heading "Tariche".
The start of this hike is at the Hôtel le Chandelier in Saint-Ursanne.
Signposting: R sign or sign No. 31.

(S) From the Hôtel le Chandelier, go to the roundabout, cross the Doubs via the bridge and immediately take path No. 31 on the left.

(1) Follow the Doubs upstream until you reach a small road. From this point, a detour may be necessary if the Tariche boat is not available.

(2) Cross the small road and stay on the left bank of the Doubs. Continue along the river until you reach a fork just before Tariche.

(3) Stay on the bank of the Doubs until you reach the famous crossing with the self-service boat.

(4) Read the instructions for using the boat carefully on the sign. Cross the Doubs and moor on the right bank. Walk past the restaurant and take the road heading south-east for about 100 metres until you see sign No. 31.

(5) Head west, follow the track that curves along the Doubs until you reach an intersection marked by a sign for R.

(6) Take the track heading north and you will come to another signpost at the foot of a winding path.

(7) Begin the ascent to the ridge via this fairly short winding path. Join a forest track on the ridge. Keep an eye out for a path on the right as soon as the track starts to curve to the left. Please note that there is no sign; the path is shown on the Swistopo map but not on OpenStreetMap.

(8) Turn right, and the trail quickly becomes obvious in the undergrowth. Come out at the foot of a meadow, follow it along the edge of the woods and, after this steep climb, join a track, indicated by a sign pointing to the right.

(9) Turn left towards the Errauts farm.

(10) Follow the road, which then turns south-west, until you reach a junction with a forest track.

(11) Take this track eastwards and look for another sign marked No. 31.

(12) Continue along the Chemin des Errauts until you reach the small road to Montmelon. Turn left and follow this road north-east for about 75 metres.

(13) Turn right at the sign for R and take the path called Sur la Montagne until you reach the sign for R, just before the farm of the same name.

(14) Turn left and then quickly right to walk along the Pontins ridge. Gradually descend towards a road. Continue along this road until you reach the start of a path marked by sign No. 31.

(15) Heading south, descend the small valley to a small pass. At this point, take the path on the right that runs through the Combe du Bé to the first houses in Glovelier. You will come to a roundabout and the main road through the village.

(16) Turn left towards the centre of the village, go past a second roundabout and take the first street on the right.

(17) Turn right onto Rue de la Gare and you will easily reach the Hôtel de la Gare, your accommodation for the night (E).

• The route for this hike uses the Chemin du Jura, which is marked on Swiss maps.

Signposting: At each major crossroads, you will find signposts.
Tariche: The normal route for this stage runs along the left bank of the Doubs for about 5.5 km, where you can cross to the right bank using a cable-guided boat.
Depending on weather conditions or the flow of the Doubs, use of this boat may be prohibited.
It is therefore strongly recommended that you check for any trail closures.

Alpine pastures: You will cross numerous alpine pastures, where farmers are very cooperative with hikers. Please respect the paths that pass through their property. Don't forget to close gates behind you.
