Short heritage trail in Josselin

Take a stroll to discover what makes Josselin such a historic place. As you wander through the town's narrow cobbled streets, you can admire the many half-timbered houses, the oldest dating back to 1538, the churches and the castle (entrance fee). A very pleasant walk.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park on the quays.

(S/E) Walk up Rue du Canal along the Oust towards the castle.

(1) Leave Rue du Val d'Oust on your right, which you will take later, and continue to the bridge. Cross the Oust and arrive in the Sainte-Croix district via Rue du Général de Gaulle. Continue to Ruelle Saint-Laurent.

(2) Turn right onto this street. At the end, make a short first turn right then left onto Rue de la Chapelle, which leads to Rue Henri et René Le Net. Make another first turn right then left to follow Rue de la Chapelle Sainte-Croix to the end. Turn right onto Rue de Caradec. At the first crossroads, turn left towards the banks of the Oust, then turn right to follow the path along the river. Pass the picnic area and, once you reach the end of the path, turn right to return to Rue de Caradec.

(3) Cross over to Rue Beaufait opposite, walk up it for 40 metres and turn left onto Rue Sainte-Croix. Return to Rue du Général de Gaulle, turn left to cross the bridge over the Oust again and turn right for about 30 metres.

(1) Cross over and turn left onto Rue du Val d'Oust: on the right, note a wayside cross and a spring. Then take the path on the right and go under the archway. Pass the Lafargue Fountain and then turn left to reach Rue de Beaumanoir. Follow the street opposite.

(4) Turn left to go around the Church of Notre-Dame du Roncier in a clockwise direction, turn right in front of the town hall, then right again onto Rue des Forges. Before completing the circular route, turn left onto Rue du Château and go downhill to Rue des Trente. Turn left to reach the entrance to the castle.

(5) Enter the grounds and head right towards the castle. Make a small circular loop and return to the entrance. Do not exit, but continue straight ahead to walk through the park, then return by the same route and exit the grounds.

(5) Turn left. Opposite Rue du Château, turn left onto Rue de la Congrégation, pass in front of the chapel of the same name and rejoin the path you took on the way there. Continue straight ahead, then turn left onto Rue du Canal d'Oust and descend to Rue du Canal.

(1) Turn left to return to the car park on the quays (S/E).
