Luitré walks

A short, easy route around the only remaining mine headframe in Brittany, with beautiful views of the region and the town of Fougères.

This loop will take you through the countryside of Châtillon-en-Vendelais and Montautour.Can be done on foot or by mountain bike.

The famousGR® 34, which runs along the entire Breton coastline, also reveals a few inland sites with striking terrain, such as the wooded hills of Montautour and Châtillon-en-Vendelais.

All the special features of the town of Fougères unfold before you throughout this urban walk: of course, you will walk around the castle with its 11 towers, but you will also discover it from the panoramic view of the Rocher Coupé or the Jardin Public. Speaking of gardens, the Parc des Orières, the Val Nançon and the Voie Verte are also on the programme. Finally, the upper town with its belfry, theatre and museums will allow you to explore the city centre.

The Fougères State Forest is rich in Druidic sites: the Carrefour de la Serpe d’Or, the Cordon des Druides and the remains of the covered walkway at La Pierre Courcoulée. This route invites you to rediscover another aspect of the past, one closer to our own time: the Gate-sel and the Chemin Mélouin, a key route for smuggling in the Middle Ages between Brittany and the Kingdom of France.

A short hike in the Fougères National Forest, through varied landscapes, culminating in a beautiful megalithic alignment, the Cordon des Druides. Route developed and maintained by the ONF.

Unnoticeable to the hiker, this route has a unique feature: the waters encountered in the south feed into the Atlantic basin, whilst those in the north flow towards the English Channel. It does, however, offer the chance to explore a site where woodworking was, for several centuries, the primary industry.

The Haute Vilaine Lake covers an area of 155 hectares and holds 8 million cubic metres of water, with a maximum depth of 13 metres. Created in 1982, its purpose is to regulate winter floods on the Vilaine for Vitré and Rennes, located downstream. Walking around the lake allows you to enjoy the lake and the forest paths.

Saint-Germain-en-Coglès, God and Satan regularly meet here as soon as granite appears in a field or water gushes from the stone. With Le Châtellier hidden behind the woods, the commune of Saint-Germain offers some of the most beautiful stories in the region, which this walk allows you to hear as you wander along the paths. But beware, these legends are drawn as much from local imagination as from historical truths.

Take a stroll through the countryside of Montreuil-sous-Pérouse and its valleys. On this route, you’ll cross charming little wooden bridges spanning the Ruisseau de la Pérouse.

The legend of the Smoking Stone, also known as the Devil's Rock, says that when the Devil is hungry, he makes the stone smoke by baking his cake between the enormous blocks of rock that form a cave. This circular loop will take you from legendary places to sacred sites. It would be the devil's work if you didn't reach the gates of the Domaine de la Foltière, the kingdom of flowers in the Parc Floral de Haute-Bretagne.

A countryside walk between Saint-Aubin-du-Cormier and Livré-sur-Changeon, through fields and woodland, suitable for children, pushchairs with tyres (other than umbrella pushchairs), and dogs. Ideal, therefore, for a family outing.

A stone's throw from Vitré, a historic town in the Marches de Bretagne region, Lake Cantache stretches across three municipalities: Champeaux, Monteuil-sous-Pérouse and Pocé-les-Bois. A winter stopover for migratory birds, their presence is a source of wonder.

This route is the first stage of a 96 km circular through the Vitré countryside. Consisting mainly of sunken lanes, this route will take you, among other places, to the Château des Rochers-Sévigné and the Valière lake.

Stroll through the historical heart of Vitré, city of art and history, with its medieval streets and alleys. Wander in quest of the heritage wonders with this trail. A true escape through history and the vitréen "art de vivre". End the walk by a visit of the medieval castle and its museum before going back to the starting point. Follow the description rather than the GPX tracks.

Une rabine désignait autrefois un chemin large et bordé d'arbres. Le circuit en emprunte à plusieurs reprises. Il suit également un petit ruisseau et permet d'apercevoir plusieurs châteaux car il emprunte des sentiers communs à une autre randonnée décrite sur le site au départ de Saint-Brice-en-Coglès.

The Mayenne is a land of pastures where plots of land remain small. There are numerous sunken lanes here, and you are invited to explore several of them. One slight drawback: due to their nature, there is no continuity. Walkers will therefore have to accept walking some distances on tarmac roads.

On the edge of the Coglais, a charming route combining a walk along a stream with paths through green hills and sunken lanes.

This circuit symbolically unites two regions by linking the Moulin de Champ Pinel (Brittany) to the Moulin de Roche Garé (Normandy), as this is where the Tronçon river marks the departmental and therefore regional boundary. You will pass through a variety of landscapes as you walk along a beautiful section of the Bois de Gâtines forest and alongside the Château du Rocher Portail, not forgetting to take the opportunity to discover the village of La-Selle-en-Coglès (the monastery of the North).

An easy walk starting from Genest-Saint-Isle, with very little elevation gain. The paths are beautiful, and you may see deer. In rainy weather, two or three sections are flooded for a few metres, but you can get around this by walking along the edge of the adjacent field. A beautiful finish along a pretty little stream.
