From Nançon to Groslay via the Fougères Forest

An easy walk that combines the pleasures of the forest with the tranquillity of the riverbank.
As well as the majestic “Jumeaux”, it offers the chance to discover various species of trees, with information provided along the arboretum path.

Description of the walk

Nançon car park: access via Allée du Jardin des Fêtes.

(S/E) Leave the car park by taking the path on the left which follows the Nançon, heading north-north-west.
At the fork in the road, turn right to reach Rue du Landry, which you follow to the junction just after the bridge.
Opposite, take the road that bends to the right. This is Chemin de Robinson, which overlooks the Nançon, visible on the right.

(1) At the end of the path, take the track on the right leading to Rue Mathurin Méheut. Continue straight on, then follow the road as it bends left to run alongside the riding school.

(2) At the crossroads, turn right. At the bend, continue straight ahead to pass under Boulevard Jean Monnet via the culvert. Continue to the end of the path.
Turn right onto Chemin de la Forêt. Cross over the cycle path and arrive at Pont aux Ânes.

(3) Take the path on the right marked ‘Private’ (except for pedestrians). Cross the Nançon and turn immediately left. At the crossroads, continue to the right.

(4) Take the wide forest track on the left that runs along the edge of the forest. Ignore all the paths on the left. Continue to the Maison Forestière du Galoupel.

(5) Cross the D108 road with care. Take the path opposite and turn right almost immediately. In some places, the path is poorly marked, but simply follow the road southwards.
As you approach the town, turn left.

(6) Cross the D177 road with great care and continue straight ahead to reach a wide forest track, which you should take on the left.
On the left, admire two remarkable trees, “Les Jumeaux”.
Take the first path on the right and follow it to reach the banks of the pond. Walk along the pond on your left, then continue straight ahead.

(7) Take the few steps on the right and follow the path overlooking the road.
Cross the Route de Gorron and continue straight on along the Ruisseau de Groslay.
All along this path, information boards identify the different species of trees and plants: this is the Groslay Arboretum
Cross Boulevard de Groslay and continue straight ahead along the path, going round the children’s playground.

(8) Cross Avenue de Normandie. Follow Rue de Mortain to the right for 50m. Turn left onto Rue de Valognes. Continue straight ahead, taking the stairs (4 flights of 3 steps) and follow Allée des Sabotiers.
Cross Avenue de la Verrerie and continue straight ahead along Chemin des Druides, then Chemin de la Tourgue.
Turn left onto Rue Mélouin until you reach the crossroads. Turn right onto Rue du Pont aux Ânes. Continue straight ahead at the roundabout along Chemin de Fontaine la Chèze.

(9) Turn left and go down the stairs to join the greenway.
Turn left onto the cycle path and follow it southwards. After crossing a road, you’ll reach the car park on the right (S/E).

A very pleasant and easy walk.
The paths are in perfect condition and can be walked in light footwear.
Quite quiet on this lovely Sunday afternoon.

We enjoyed this walk, which mainly follows footpaths and a few small roads with very little or no traffic. The twin peaks are magnificent, and we were also able to admire the variety of trees planted along the route. The only slight let-down was the section through the town (Route de Groslay with its blocks of flats).

We enjoyed this walk, which mainly follows footpaths and a few minor roads with very little or no traffic. Only the section through the built-up area (Route de Groslay with its blocks of flats) is a bit of a let-down.
