(S/E) Head towards the school by going through the gate at No. 6 (always open) and take the path on the left which runs alongside a small car park, then take the pedestrian chicane.
Continue along Allée Thérèse Pierre, keeping the fence on your right. Turn right onto Rue Duguay-Trouin and walk for 120 metres, then turn left onto Chemin de la Grille. First turn right then left to pass under the bridge of the old railway line and walk alongside the dog enclosure (the dogs always bark, but the fence is sturdy).
Before you reach La Placardière, turn left and follow the path uphill, which runs north-west alongside the Voie Verte.
(1) At the junction (there is a new road on the left not shown on the map), turn right and cross Rue Colbert. Continue to the left. Let Rue de la Pellerine branch off to the right and carry on straight ahead to cross the Ruisseau de Groslay.
Take a hairpin bend to the right and head down towards the stream. Follow it, keeping to the left. Follow the small road to the right which leads to the laboratory car park. Use the pedestrian crossing to cross Boulevard Michel Cointat.
(2) Turn left to reach the entrance to Parc des Orrières. Turn right to enter the park. Walk alongside the pond, keeping it on your left, then cross the first small bridge on the left. Turn right to walk past the children’s play equipment. Ignore the other small bridges crossing the stream on your right.
(3) Turn right between the houses and the stream. Cross Rue du Commandant Victor Pannier and continue straight ahead, keeping the Ruisseau de Groslay on your right.
Turn right into Rue Anatole le Braz, then left into Route de la Chapelle Janson. At the junction, keep to the right and, after 100 metres, turn right to cross the stream. Continue along the footpath heading north, then onto the road to reach Boulevard de Groslay.
(4) Turn left, without crossing the boulevard. Turn left onto Rue Beaumanoir. After 100 metres, cross the road and take the steps on the right. Follow the path overlooking the boulevard and the Moulin de Groslay. At the last detached houses on your left, turn left to rejoin the road. Cross Avenue de Normandie and continue straight ahead into Rue des Bleuets.
(5) Turn left to go round the back of the block of flats. Then turn right onto Allée des Sabotiers. Cross Avenue de la Verrerie at the pedestrian crossing and continue straight ahead, veering slightly to the left, onto Chemin des Druides. Continue left onto Rue des Jardins, then right onto Rue Molière.
Cross the junction and carry on straight ahead along Rue du Pont aux Ânes. Cross another junction and carry on straight ahead. At the Fork in the road, take the left-hand street and, at the bend, go straight on down the steps leading to the Voie Verte.
(6) Turn left and follow the Voie Verte. Cross Rue du Gué Landry and continue straight ahead to reach the Jardin des Fêtes car park. Turn right and cross the car park. Turn left to go up Allée du Jardin des Fêtes and take thefirst street on the right to reach Boulevard Jacques Faucheux.
(7) Continue to the left until you reach the pedestrian crossing. Cross the boulevard and head back down to the right. Turn left onto Ruelle des Vaux, which runs round the Montfromery Tower. After a few metres, take the path on the left (marked with a Red Cross). This is still Ruelle des Vaux, which overlooks Nançon Park on your right whilst running as close as possible, on the left, to the houses forming a rampart.
At the end of the alley, go under the stone archway and continue to the left until you reach Rue de la Pinterie.
(8) Walk downhill and turn left onto Rue de la Fourchette. Stay on the right-hand pavement. Before passing through the Porte Notre-Dame, note a small passageway on the right leading to the castle’s four water wheels.
After crossing the drawbridge, turn left onto Rue Fos Keralix. Continue to the right along Rue du Nançon, crossing Place du Marchix (with its medieval houses).
Carry on to the left to cross the Nançon (river) and turn left onto Rue des Vallées. Ignore the Duchesse Anne steps on your right and enter the Jardin public.
(9) Take the path which leads up a flight of steps. Once you reach the middle section of the garden, continue left up the steps and keep climbing until you reach the upper balustrade of the garden (panoramic view of the castle, Saint-Sulpice Church and the whole of the Nançon Valley).
Leave the Public Garden through the gate situated between Saint-Léonard Church and the Town Hall. Head downhill opposite, along Rue de Pommereul. Cross the square and continue straight on into Impasse de Lariboisière. Cross the small square.
Cross Avenue François Mitterrand, in front of the Sub-Prefecture. Turn left and then immediately right into Rue des Résistants Fougerais.
(10) Turn right onto Rue Madiot. Cross Rue Pasteur and continue straight ahead on the right into Passage d’Avenel. Cross Boulevard Edmond Roussin and continue straight ahead on the left along the path. Turn left onto Rue Jean Bouin. Then turn right onto Rue du Stand. Continue left, running alongside the buildings. Cross Boulevard Huguette Gallais at the roundabout to return to the car park where you started, on the right (S/E).
