Sundgau circuit in Leymen
Landskrön, a castle that was feared until 1814 and is now lovingly maintained by a Franco-Swiss association, and Mariastein, where crowds of pilgrims come to pray every year, are the highlights of this superb walk, which offers beautiful views on both sides of the border.
The 3 Castles Trail
A marked route of around 80 km (4 days / 3 nights) that crosses the Sundgau region of the Jura, passing by its three main castles: Leymen, Ferrette and Morimont.Four days of walking, far from the hustle and bustle of the cities, offering the perfect opportunity to fully recharge your batteries.The Sundgau Jura, despite its relatively low altitude, offers plenty of points of interest and beautiful views; it awaits you.Accommodation is available in each town/stage.
Hills around Hagenthal-le-Haut
A walk partly through the forest and partly in open countryside on the heights of Hagenthal-le-Haut. Several benches and picnic spots along the route. On the return journey, beautiful views of the Jura, Basel, Chrischona and the surrounding hills.
Sundgau route: Hagenthal-Neuwiller
The Eptingen family, who had already settled on the edge of the Sundgau region in the 14th century, owned both Hagenthal
and Neuwiller, where they lived in comfortable castles. This walk crosses their former seigneury and passes through a one-kilometre-wide bottleneck between the borders, as Neuwiller forms a sort of French peninsula on Swiss territory. Text by Marc Glotz taken from the Sundgau hiking guide.
Biederthal Canyon
A short route running along the French-Swiss border, suitable for children aged five and over, through a beautiful forest. A few lovely panoramic views leading to a point of interest, the Biederthal Canyon, a geological formation carved into the limestone rock.
Burg and Röschenz circular loop
A very beautiful circular route in the heart of the Swiss Jura, straddling the cantons of Basel-Landschaft and Solothurn. You will pass through the charming village of Burg and its medieval-style castle, the Rittimatte, from where you can admire a magnificent panorama stretching from the Vosges to the Black Forest. You will then cross over to the other side of the Raemelsberg to admire the spectacular scenery from the ruins of the Blauenstein before climbing up towards the Challpass. A very pleasant walk alternating between forests and pastures.
Via the Oratory of the Three Virgins from Wentzwiller
The route starts at the car park by the church in Wentzwiller, a pretty little village typical of the Sundgau, a region in southern Alsace. A lovely walk with beautiful views over the Rhine Valley and Basel.
From Linsdorf to Bettlach via the Casemates Trail
Starting from Linsdorf, between forest and fields, the route climbs to the Eichwald plateau, alternating between woods and fields, leading successively to the Abri de la Fuste, on the heights of Bettlach, and the Sentier des Casemates, connecting three imposing forts of the Maginot Line. The Casemates Trail is dotted with information panels explaining the history of the Maginot Line. The route also offers beautiful views of the Ill Valley and the Jura Mountains.
Sundgau Circuit: Wolschwiller - Burg - Le Raemelsberg
The Raemel mountain range, two kilometres long, blocks the horizon and rises to an altitude of 832 metres. It is the highest point in the Alsatian Jura, accessible via a picturesque limestone ridge, the Sentier des douaniers or smugglers' path, which follows the French-Swiss border. This is a fairly challenging walk, but it offers magnificent views of the Swiss Jura.
The ridge of the Raemel massif from Wolschwiller
The Raemel massif forms the northernmost foothills of the Jura. The highest point is the eponymous summit, also known as Raemelspitz, which rises to 831 metres. From the viewing platform, there is a breathtaking view of the surrounding area. Almost the entire route runs through woodland. Only the last 5 kilometres pass through orchards. Apart from the panoramic views, there are several points of interest along the route, including the Biederthal Gorges and the Lutter Spring.
The Big Oak Tree via the Raedersdorf Discovery Trail
This family hike takes you to the majestic Gros Chêne de Sondersdorf. Entirely in the forest, it passes through the Raedersdorf Discovery Trail, decorated with around fifty (or more) wooden sculptures and dotted with educational panels that are sure to interest children. The hills of Hésingue
Partly in the forest and partly in open countryside, this route will allow you to discover the forest and countryside to the west of Hésingue: the passage over and under the D105, the Fichtag discovery trail with its numerous informative and entertaining displays and panels, the Liesbach passage with its beautiful wooden footbridges, the Finnish track, the tranquillity of the forest, the beauty of the countryside and the views towards the Black Forest.
Basel SBB Station – Birsfelden Power Station circular loop
A short, peaceful stroll in Basel along the Rhine. Start and finish on the forecourt of Basel SBB station. It is a superb walk with the Rhine as its central feature. There are plenty of benches along the route where you can rest and enjoy the magnificent Basel landscape.
The Chastelbach and Ibach streams from Grellingen
Discover two small streams full of waterfalls and karst cliffs in Baselland (Basel-Landschaft). Coolness and humidity are guaranteed under the trees and cliffs bordering these small, steep-sided valleys.
Kleinlützel circular in the canton of Solothurn
This hike takes place in the Swiss Jura mountains, in the canton of Solothurn, right on the border with France near Kiffis. Varied landscapes in beautiful, well-maintained natural surroundings. The path first runs along La Lucelle, then winds its way up and down hills, passing isolated farms at high altitude, pastures that tumble down to the valley floor and passes that offer breathtaking views of this part of the Jura. A very beautiful route, not to be missed.
The Three Countries Poets' Trail
This short walk takes you through three countries on foot and enriches the mind as you read the texts by French, Swiss and German poets displayed on the boundary stones.You will pass from France to Switzerland and then back through Germany.No need to take your passport to travel, an identity card will suffice.
