From Ranspach-le-Bas to Ranspach-le-Haut

Park near the church in Ranspach-le-Bas, on Rue de Sarbazan.

(S/E) Opposite the church, take the street to the left of the steps, then the path on the left. Follow the Blue Rings and the Blue Rectangle.

(1) At the cross, continue along the main path to the left, walking until you reach the bend on the right.

(2) Carry on, following the Yellow Ring and the Blue Ring and the Blue Rectangle. Walk alongside the river until you reach a bridge.

(3) Do not cross the bridge; continue to the right along the Riedhag path, following the Yellow Ring and Blue Ring. Stay on this path; do not take the paths to the right.

(4) Begin a gentle descent, then, after 100 m, turn right and walk alongside a hedge.

(5) Turn right, following the blue and yellow ring markings. Walk along the edge of the forest, downhill, until you reach the track. Turn left and continue along the track running alongside the forest edge, marked with a green disc and a blue ring.

(6) At the end of the forest, turn right, then right again, and enter the village of Ranspach-le-Haut. Walk past the church.

(7) At the school, turn left onto Rue des Sources, passing the town hall.

(8) At Rue des Prairies, turn left. After 100 m, turn onto the path on the right. Stay on this path until you reach the bridge over the river.

(9) At the junction, cross the river and head straight up towards the D419. Cross the road – watch out for cars!
On a clear day, there’s a stunning view of Basel and the surrounding area. Continue straight on along the main path.

(10) At the junction with a wide path, turn right (arrow with a picture of a biplane). Walk through the forest to the sign marking the 1915 aeroplane crash. To see the memorial stone, take the path on the left and walk 50 metres there and back. Return to the main path.

(11) Turn right at the fork. At the next signpost, turn left. Follow the Blue Rectangle and Red Disc markings on the trees carefully. When you reach a wider path, turn left, walk alongside a field on your left, then continue along the path marked with the Blue Rectangle and Red Disc (^GR® 531). Walk past the reservoir. Carry on straight ahead to enter the village of Ranspach-le-Bas.

(12) In the village, turn right onto the D419. After about 40 metres, cross the road carefully, then walk down Rue de l’Église to return to the starting point (S/E).
