Biederthal Canyon

A short route running along the French-Swiss border, suitable for children aged five and over, through a beautiful forest. A few lovely panoramic views leading to a point of interest, the Biederthal Canyon, a geological formation carved into the limestone rock.

Description of the walk

Parking available in the small car park at Biederthal Church, Rue de l'Église.

(S/E) Walk to the end of Rue de l'Église and head up the Red Ring marked trail. Enter the forest, starting with a steep climb. Keep to the right to reach the bend in a small road.

(1) At this point, follow the road to the right for a few dozen metres and head back into the forest on the right, still following the Red Ring markings. A little further down the slope, Yellow Diamond signs for the Swiss-side paths lead you across small wooden bridges. The path joins a junction just before a road.

(2) Turn right and continue downhill. At the bottom of the descent, the path joins the entrance to the Biederthal Canyon.

(3) Turn right to explore the canyon for about 150 m, then turn back to return to the canyon entrance.

(3) Join the road and follow it to the right until you reach the village. Pass thefirst houses and the junction with Rue du Ruisseau on your left, then continue for a few dozen metres.

(4) Don’t miss the path that branches off to the right and joins Rue de l’Église further on. Turn right to return to the car park (S/E).

Pleasant walk; note that there are wooden steps to climb at point 1 when you return to the forest, then again along the route to descend before point 2. The steps are easy to climb, but some people may find them difficult

Hello
A lovely, pleasant little walk in the hills above Biederthal, with a picnic on the Swiss meadows

The car park next to the cemetery is no longer available following a local by-law banning long-term parking.
Several parking spaces have been created on Rue des Vignes

A lovely, fairly short walk, ideal for young children.

The only downside is there’s no water! Because of the drought

Very disappointing... it’s not the route or the walk itself that’s the problem, BUT... the canyon is dry because the water has been diverted by a maize farmer further up, upstream of the canyon! So it’s a rather sad sight! ! !
But it’s a lovely walk!
