(S/E) Start at the foot of the Three Countries Footbridge from Huningue. Walk up the Rhine along the Quai de la République.
(1) Cross the Huningue Canal, turn left towards the Protestant Temple and follow the Quai du Rhin to the end.
(2) Take the path that continues from the barriers (to avoid motorised traffic). Continue with caution, as the path is shared by pedestrians and cyclists.
(3) Gate serving as the border with Switzerland; continue along the banks of the Rhine.
Before the bridge, go up the slope on the right or take the stairs to reach the Dreirosenbrücke (a multi-level bridge with a motorway underneath).
(4) Cross at the pedestrian crossing and turn left to cross the Rhine.
Shortly before the end of the bridge, take the stairs on the right to reach the street that runs alongside the river.
Turn right and go under the bridge to continue along UnterRheinweg, keeping to the left-hand pavement.
(5) Turn left, cross the railway tracks and you will find yourself on Rheinweg. Walk along the Rhine, past the "artistic zone" and the lightship.
After the transport companies and before the mouth of the Wiese, turn right, cross the railway line and you will find yourself on Wiesendamm.
Take the left-hand pavement, cross several railway tracks and continue to the tram station.
(6) Cross the river to the left and then, after the bridge, turn right at the roundabout to reach Kleinhüningeranlage.
Turn left and stay on the left-hand pavement, following tram line 8. Cross the bridge over the Rhine port of Basel (Europe's largest river port) to the German border.
(7) After the customs post, go down to the left to go around the shopping centre on the left. Walk along the fence (German-Swiss border) to reach the Rhine.
(8) Turn right onto the path that leads to the foot of the footbridge. Take the stairs on the left to return to the starting point in France (S/E).
