The Col de Bramousse and Col de Fromage via the Col de Souillet

You'll take the Aiguillettes path up to the two major passes above Ceillac, then join the Col de Fromage via the Souillet path on the Guil valley side, on a beautiful balcony path.
⚠️Caution: the Aiguillettes path crosses 3 ravines that may pose problems for some. If this is the case, you can take the GR® which starts nearby and ends at the same point. Less interesting but quieter.

Description of the walk

Start : Top of Ceillac village, above the small children's ski slope (near the ice rink).

(S/E) Take the streets to the West that lead up to the new Ceillac and reach the GR® 58.

(1) Don't take it, but go straight ahead, cross the torrent and follow the yellow-marked Aiguillettes path. Ignore the Via Ferrata paths on your left. Descend slightly to join the GR® 58.

(2) Turn left along the new GR® route, marked in red and white, to reach the Col de Bramousse.

(3) Head South-West along the path around the scree to climb up off-track into the Montagne de Riou Vert. Reach an unnamed pass marked on the map at 2264.
As an option, you can follow a path to the West (a return journey), which takes you level with some beautiful combes.

(4) Continue to the other side via a downhill path in the forest that joins the GR®.

(5) Turn left for a few hundred metres, then leave it and turn quickly right at the sign, direction Col de Souillet. Keep to this path, due North through the forest, to reach the pass.

(6) Turn right at the sign, direction Col Fromage, along a balcony path overlooking the Guil valley. At the end of the forest, continue on to Col Fromage.

(7) Turn to the right, take the GR®5, which is shared with a variant of the GR®58. Keep to the Red-White markings. Follow the wide track to the hamlet of Villard.

(8) Follow the wide track to the right as far as the skating rink car park (S/E).

Beautiful mountain hike. Suitable for all able-bodied people, each at their own pace.

Magnificent with beautiful views, but I was a bit worried that the proposed route was too long for me (!) so I went straight from the Col Fromage to the Col de Bramousse and the optical station. Superb view of Ceillac below (and therefore in the opposite direction to the proposed route).

Superb and varied walk. Arriving at the Col de Bramousse, we climbed up to the optical post (observatory... magnificent view) and descended via the Col du Fromage.

Superb, varied walk: undergrowth, mountain pastures, balcony path...
We couldn't find the start and went straight up the GR58. So, at the Col de Bramousse, we decided to go via the Chalets de Bramousse to the Col de Souillet. This variant involves a lot of elevation change, which is not really interesting.
In the end, we climbed 977m and covered 14.13 km in 7 hours.
At this time of year, we only met 4 people on the day.

For the start of the walk, I think it's best to start from the chapel backing onto the cemetery, which is easy to spot on the outskirts of the village, as we looked in vain for the ice rink!
Then all you have to do is follow the GR straight ahead, which climbs in the shade of the larches.
A beautiful hike, especially the first part.
Lots of people at the cheese pass.
