Go to Lac des Settons and park in the large public car park (free) at the northern tip, before the dam (toilets available).
(S/E) From the car park, walk carefully along the road on the Seine side of the lake, heading west. You can look out over the lake by crossing the road. Turn right onto the Morégnon uphill path, located just before the Les Terrasses restaurant. This is theGR®13. Immediately after the building, turn left. At the end of the cul-de-sac, take the path to a fork.
(1) Leave theGR® and keep to the right, following this path, marked in yellow, straight ahead northwards, ignoring the side paths. It leads to the Route de La Tourbière, where theGR®13passes.
(2) Continue straight ahead on theGR® along a tarmac road which, at the end of a straight line, at a meadow, branches off twice to the right and becomes a dirt track. Shortly afterwards, turn left onto a path that is closed to cars and motorbikes. You will come out onto a tarmac road and cross the hamlet of Les Crots de Fonteny on the right.
(3) Continue through the woods, crossing several wet areas and a ford. You will reach an intersection at a place called Le Pré Naudot.
(4) Go up theGR® on the left until you reach the D292.
(5) Follow it carefully northwards. You can cut across two bends via marked paths. Cross a bridge over the Caillot and arrive at Metz Garnier, a suburb of Gouloux (factory, eco-museum, well). On either side of the street, you will find the Marchand clog factory and a few carved creations. At the next crossroads with an old well in the centre, turn left.
(6) Still on theGR® 13, continue, carefully, along the road. Just before a right-hand bend, leave the road by turning left onto a path (markedGR®13and pilgrims). After a dip, keep right at an intersection (the stream guides you to the right) and join the Saut de Gouloux and the ruins of the mill after crossing a ford just before.
(7) Pass in front of the ruins of the mill and walk along the Ruisseau Caillot stream, which guides you to the right. Follow this route through the pine trees to a bridge over the stream, just before the La Cure river and the Pont Dupin (iron monument with bench).
(8) Turn left and climb, following the La Cure river, keeping to the right, until you reach a flat area overlooking its turbulent waters (beautiful view). Continue on the left along the discovery trail, which descends and then climbs again via wooden log steps. You will come to a T-junction with an information panel.
(9) Turn right and continue straight ahead to reach the centre of the village of Nataloup via the Bois de l'Abbesse road (note the remarkable beech tree on the right of the path, outside the woods).
(10) From a calvary, turn left onto Chemin des Bouffées to head south and reach Palmaroux via Chemin des Boquerelles. On Rue des Hirondelles, turn right at a house, heading towards a gate in the distance. Keep right on a grassy path leading downhill.
(11) At the cross (turn around to see it), continue a few metres to the left to reach Route du Bois de Serre. Turn right, leave the village, veer left (before a crossroads) to ford the Pré Thomas stream. Go back up to the road, opposite number 2 Hameau le Gué de Largenne.
(12) Turn left at the crossroads and follow Rue des Deux Lavoirs southwards, then turn left at the fork towards Champ Gazon. Continue along the same road via Route de La Tourbière.
(13) Leave the road on the left, onto a stony path, shortly after leaving the hamlet (yellow markings). Opposite the sheds, keep left as you climb and you will reach a crossroads.
(14) Turn right onto the path that runs alongside a fir tree plantation, keeping to the left, and return to Route de la Tourbière. Turn left at this crossroads (yellow markings).
(15) As the road turns left, turn right (GR®13) to pass through the Morvan Regional Nature Reserve. At a fork, keep left (GR® and pilgrim markings).
(1) Follow the same route back to the car park at the northern tip of Lac des Settons (S/E).
