Park in the main square of Alligny-en-Morvan.
(S/E) Take Rue Joseph Bruley opposite and follow the yellow markings. Leave a road on your left, which will be your return route. Arrive at the foot of the Teureau Brunot.
(1) Turn right towards Marnay, pass the sewage treatment plant and reach a wooded area.
(2) Enter the woods, continue along the path without going down into the hamlet and arrive at a fork where you leave the yellow markings.
(3) Turn left onto the Chemin de la Croix and continue to a road at a place called Le Défens.
(4) At the road, turn right and head downhill to take the Chemin de la Grand Vie, continuing straight on past the cross until the tarmac ends.
(5) Continue along a path that runs alongside the Ruisseau de la Grand Vie, then cross it. Continue south along this path until you reach a junction.
(6) Continue straight along the path. Head downhill and you will reach a junction near the Ruisseau de Chaudot.
(7) Turn left and cross the stream by fording or via a small stone bridge on the left. Ignore a path branching off to the left and head towards the first houses in the hamlet of Goix.
(8) Then turn sharply left and head uphill. Follow a good forest track and ignore all turn-offs to the right. Further on, at the top of the climb (elevation 513m), the track gives way to a dirt track. Continue straight ahead, passing an old green gate (which remains open), and reach another gate leading to the D980.
(9) Just before this, take a path on the left (do not go past the gate). Head north and descend along the path which narrows (note boundary marker no. 8 on the left).
(10) Cross a small stream and head back up the other side along a pretty little stone-lined path which then widens as you leave the forest. Ignore a turn-off to the right, rejoin the tarmac road and immediately reach a junction after the hamlet of La Ferrière. Continue straight on along the Route du Manoi to the crossroads.
(11) Continue straight ahead to a four-way crossroads.
(12) Turn left and join a road.
(13) Turn left onto this road, then take the first path on the right, Le Bel Air.
La Chaises du Loup: halfway along, on the left next to the signpost, you will find a stone shaped like a seat at the foot of a tree. Here we encounter the ancient fear of wolves, which is evoked in many other places in the Morvan.
You’ll reach a road.
(14) Take this road to the left, walking downhill for about 100 m, then turn left and immediately right towards Bazolles.
''As you head down towards Bazolles, you’ll be following a route that children from Reglois and La Ferrière used to take to get to school in Alligny long before school buses existed. “The schoolchildren’s path”. Join the D516 towards Alligny.
(15) Follow it for about a hundred metres and, at the cross, turn right onto Chemin du Tulon and cross a bridge over the Tulon.
(16) After the bridge, take the path on the left.
Halfway along, on the left in a tree, look out for the den of a pair of badgers.
Cross a footbridge before reaching the road.
(17) Turn left onto the road. At the junction at a place called Petit Bazolles, continue right towards the village. Take the small wooden bridge on the right after the wash house, still following the yellow markings, and arrive at the main square in Alligny-en-Morvan, passing to the left of the church:
