The Montaboulins circular route via the Tacot route

Set off from the village of Alligny-en-Morvan to explore the Tacot railway line, which linked Corbigny to Saulieu from 1901 to 1939. Passing beneath the ruins of the Château de la Tour d’Ocle, after crossing the forest, the return journey follows a lovely path with a beautiful view over a stretch of meadows back to the village.

Description of the walk

Park in the village square.

(S/E) Set off on the D121, heading due north, going up past the church, turn left onto the Route du Tacot, pass the cemetery and at the next junction (fire hydrant), turn right onto the Chemin du Tacot. Cross the D121 and continue straight on to the ruins of the Château de la Tour d’Ocle.

(1) Turn right in front of the hut to cross the Poriot bridge. After the houses, at the junction, follow the road to the right, then take the path on the left which runs past the side of house no. 6. Much further on, you’ll reach a crossroads.

(2) Continue to the right and then quickly to the left until you reach the signpost: a green arrow on a fir tree.

(3) Leave the main path and head down to the right via a muddy passage to emerge onto a wide cross-country track.

(4) Follow this wide path all the way to the left for just over 400 m and look out for a small path on the right.

(5) Then turn right at a 90° angle, go round a house on the left and rejoin a road just after.

(6) Before the junction, turn right onto the track and continue until you reach another road.

(7) At the cross, take the road on the left for 100 m until you reach another crossroad (D516).

(8) Turn right onto this road (Rue Joseph Bruley). At the wash house, take the small wooden bridge on the right and continue to the car park (S/E).

A very pleasant walk at the end of the day with beautiful light enhancing the landscape. The "stone bridge" is surprising! The only question I had about the route was at the fir tree with a green mark (the mark is almost invisible). Thank you for this beautiful itinerary!

A really lovely walk, starting in the village and then heading out into the countryside and hills. I did it in early October and it was a bit drizzly, so I don’t think I saw a soul! There are sections along roads, but with little or no traffic, so I didn’t find it a problem.
The scenery is quite varied.
I did the walk with my dog, whom I was able to let off the lead for long stretches, so it was really enjoyable.

A very pleasant walk, easy as there’s little elevation gain in the first half, which follows the route of a very old railway line. A lovely climb followed by a descent through the forest.
Completed in 1 hour 40 minutes without a break, covering 6.95 km (as described)

Hello Jean-Marc,
Thank you for your feedback.
The altitudes have been corrected. This sometimes happens with GPS readings and, despite our various checks, this one slipped through the net. If you look at the elevation profile, the high and low points now match the technical data. The difference between D+ and D- is 3 m; this can be explained when the contour lines are very close together.
As for the distance, in my view, after checking, it is consistent.

Hello,
I was pleasantly surprised to see that a hike was on offer in the Nièvre, and more specifically in the Morvan Regional Nature Park.
However, I was taken aback when I looked at the details of the hike; I don’t know how you could have come up with such completely inaccurate figures:
the first thing that struck me was the elevation gain listed as 1,585m; whilst the Morvan massif does offer significant elevation changes in certain places, we are only in the low mountain range. Another point regarding the elevation: as the route is circular (returning to the starting point), the descent should balance out the ascent; yet you’ve indicated a difference of 51m.
I am used to mapping and plotting routes using a well-known and reliable software programme; I calculated an elevation gain of 125m, hence the significant discrepancy.
The highest point given is 600m, whereas I found it to be 543m, and the lowest point given as 261m is, in my view, 454m (starting point).
And finally, I’ll mention the distance of 5.700 km, whereas it’s given as 7.06 km.
So, quite a few major errors!
I trust you will correct these figures.
Best regards.
