On the Col du Lautaret road, after passing the village of Villar-d'Arène, take the small road on the left which leads immediately to the hamlet of Les Cours.
In this hamlet, take the small road on the left between two houses and at the sign for Lac du Pontet. For just over a kilometre, this (very narrow) road serves two parking areas, the first on the left and the second a little further up at the terminus. This is where the route starts.
(S/E) After parking, head right towards the slightly rutted track that climbs towards the lake. Go through the gate and from there, the lake is about a 5- to 10-minute walk away.
(1) When you reach Lac du Pontet, walk around it to the right, covering almost three-quarters of its circumference to enjoy the views. Just before the chalet, which serves as a refreshment bar in summer, take the path on the right, which starts with an uphill climb and then follows the contour line through alpine pastures covered with flowers in season.
(2) At Col de l'Aiguillon, take the path on the left which descends slightly to the next junction. The summit is then straight ahead!
(3) Ignore the paths to the right and left and reach the summit via a fairly steep climb over the last few metres.
(4) At the summit of Aiguillon, take advantage of the bench to catch your breath and, above all, admire the view of the Meije massif.
Turn around and descend towards the Col de l'Aiguillon. Reach the second trailhead on the right.
(3) Follow the path on the right, first on a slight incline and then downhill, until it leads to a wider track.
(5) Take the track on the left. This track leads to the first car park mentioned above.
(6) Head back up to the Chazelet car park by taking the road on the left.
You can also return to the starting point via a path that cuts across the bends in this section of road, but it may be closed during the summer grazing season (S/E).
