(S) At the spa gardens, follow Tusculumweg, with the cathedral on your left, and follow the path slightly uphill, past the two boarding school buildings and turn right after house number 4. Cross under the bypass
and follow the path to the right, slightly uphill, until you reach the crossroads.
(1) Here, take the left-hand path and walk about 100 metres along Alfred-Weissenberger-Weg
. At a fork, keep right and walk uphill. We now follow a beautiful, narrow path uphill, initially heading east. After a long right-hand bend, we reach a T-junction, where we follow the signs for Schluchtensteig, first turning left and then immediately left again, continuing uphill.
(2) At the next junction, turn right at an acute angle and follow the unpaved forest path uphill. At the next fork, keep left and continue uphill. You will come to a bench.
(3) Shortly afterwards, ignore the turn-off and continue uphill until you come to a feeding place for wild animals.
(4) The path becomes narrower and steeper again; keep straight ahead and continue uphill.
(5) Follow the path to the right, continuing uphill towards Lehenkopf.
You will soon reach the Lehenkopfturm tower.
(6) To the left of the tower, in front of the tables, a narrow root path leads us back into the forest, now downhill, making a left turn and at the next fork continuing straight ahead downhill to a crossroads.
(7) The markings are difficult to see, so we continue straight ahead, turning right at the next fork and continuing downhill to a shelter.
(8) Shortly afterwards, keep right and follow the gravel forest path uphill again until you reach the asphalt road. At the next fork, keep right, cross the road and follow the sign, which leads you to the left and then to the right on a beautiful path, first through the forest and finally across the meadows along the fence. You will then reach the Horbacher Heide viewpoint.
(9) A short detour to the viewpoint is worthwhile; the path leads down a few steps to the right. We reach an unpaved forest path with a barrier, follow it to the right and then turn left onto the paved road Auf der Breite
, which we follow to the wide road Am Klosterweiher
. Cross the wide road at the bend and walk towards the entrance to the Klosterweiherhof country inn.
(10) The Schluchtensteig trail passes to the right of the inn, then follows a beautiful footpath along the Klosterweiher pond, past three benches. Then our narrow path turns left and climbs relatively steeply in short switchbacks along the power line until we finally reach a wider forest path, which we follow to the right until we reach the Friedrich August Grube information board.
(11) Turn left here and continue uphill to a T-junction with a blue signpost for winter hiking trails.
(12) We turn left, ignore the next few turnings and reach a clearing with a magnificent view and the Kreuzfelsenhütte hut.
(13) Continue along the Kreuzfelsenweg
trail until you reach a crossroads and turn right onto the path that leads further uphill into the forest. Follow the signposts, go straight ahead at the next crossroads and shortly afterwards turn left onto Köpfenhaldeweg
until you reach the next signpost.
(14) Continue straight ahead, now along the edge of the forest, on the unpaved forest or field path. At the first crossroads, turn right, then left and right again, then straight ahead. The path is well signposted here. You will pass several cattle grids, and the path leads you partly across cow pastures until you come to an information board about typical features of the Black Forest.
(15) Turn right here and head uphill, back into the forest, then down a few switchbacks until you reach the paved Klosterwaldweg
road. Diagonally to the left ahead of you, you will see the Ibacher Friedenskreuz, your next destination. Walk a few metres to the left along the road and you will pass another information board.
(16) Here, we turn right, walk uphill for a short distance and, at the top, turn left across the pasture to the Ibacher Friedenskreuz.
(17) After a short detour to the bench, the path leads us along the willow fence, left at the T-junction and immediately right again. We are now on the Panoramaweg
, which lives up to its name.
(18) Just behind the shelter, we turn left, follow the Panoramaweg
through the forest and across the pastures again to the Lampenschweine summit cross.
(19) Here, too, it is worth making a short detour. The Schluchtensteig trail continues along the Panoramaweg
trail. At the junctions, keep left until you reach a paved path (Wachtbühl
). Follow this path around a sharp right-hand bend and you will see our trail below on the left. Turn left here and follow the trail past a small cross.
(20) Shortly afterwards, we reach a crossroads. We cross the road and follow the Marksteinweg
leisurely but steadily uphill to a bench.
(21) Continue straight ahead, still uphill. Keep left at the next junctions and walk downhill on Schwarzerstockweg
until you reach the road.
(22) At the Ibacher Kreuz, we cross the busy road, turn slightly right onto a narrow path and follow the signs for the Schluchtensteig (right, half left and right again) until we reach the entrance to the Hohwehraschlucht.
(23) Turn left into the gorge and follow the path downhill along the weir until you reach the first houses of Todtmoos.
(24) At the T-junction, turn right briefly, then cross the road and walk along the main road into the village. Follow the signs to the bus park on the left and cross the weir again.
(E) Here we can get on the bus or alternatively stay overnight in Todtmoos.
