Description of the walk

This hike starts at the Hotel Klosternhof in Sankt Blasien.

Signposting: Schwarzwald Albsteig, white Albsteig diamonds.

(S) From the Hotel Klosternhof, return to Hauptstrasse and follow the Alb in a south-easterly direction until you reach the St Blasier Stübe restaurant.

(1) Turn left onto Friederichstrasse and continue until you reach a fork.

(2) Turn left and join the Albsteig Schwarzwald.

(3) Follow the various signs for Wittenschwand and walk towards the village of Hausern. Cross the Sankt-Blasien-Stasse with caution. You will come to an intersection.

(4) Turn left and follow the sign for Albsteig-Wittenschwand. Cross Hausern to the south.

(5) Turn right towards the south, leave Hausern and approach Höchenswander Strasse.

(6) As indicated by the Albsteig diamond, head towards the underpass and come out at a sports park. Look for another diamond at a fork in the road (near a ski lift on the map, but it no longer seems to exist).

(7) Stay on the Albsteig and begin a steady climb through the forest to the highest point of the day.

(8) Descend to the reservoir on the Alb (Albstausee)

(9) Continue the descent to Albstrasse. Cross this road, follow the path behind the safety barrier and arrive at a bridge. Cross the Alb.

(10) Follow the Albstausee to the dam.

(11) Head south, still on the Albsteig, and walk through the forest on a balcony path until you reach a fork.

(12) Turn right and begin a fairly steep climb on the Pfad zum Bidstein. Descend towards the Urbach stream. Continue eastwards to a new intersection.

(13) Continue east towards the village of Wittenschand. Cross the Mühlebach and continue to the next intersection.

(14) Leave the Albsteig and take the Arnoldslochweg to enter Wittenschwand. Join the Schmiedebachstrasse, then turn left into the Rathausstrasse. Just after the town hall, turn left into the Kapellenstrasse. Return to the Dachsberger Hof, your accommodation for the night. (E)
