Between town and countryside around Aubergenville

Starting from the old village of Aubergenville, you’ll soon be walking through woods and fields towards remote hamlets. You’ll then pass through the Parc d’Acosta estate, built in 1962 amidst lush vegetation, before returning to the old village and the final sights of the walk.

Description of the walk

The starting point is the car park at the Théâtre de la Nacelle, Rue de Montgardé, in Aubergenville.

(S/E) As you leave the car park, take a few steps to the right and enter the Parc du Château du Vivier. Head up to the right, opposite the château, to see the fountain and the small educational farm. Then head back towards the château and go round it to the right to arrive at the entrance. Exit through a small gate and turn left into Grande Rue, cross Rue du 8 Mai 1945 and continue along Rue du Grand Aulnay. At the T-junction, turn left into Impasse Villa d’Artois, then climb a flight of steps to arrive near the Montgardé Clinic.

(1) Head up to the right for a few metres and take the small path opposite, to the left of the ‘Centre hospitalier privé du Montgardé’ entrance sign. At the fork, turn right to follow aPR® trail, very clearly marked in yellow. Ignore all side paths for about 1.4 km until you reach some houses.

(2) Continue along the Chemin des Galigots, then at the next junction, head left onto the Route de Montgardé. At the fork, facing a wall, turn left onto the Chemin de Montgardé (signposted), which continues alongside the castle’s surrounding wall until a T-junction. Turn right until you rejoin the Route de Montgardé, which you’ll take to the right.

(3) When you reach the green gate, turn left onto thePR® and, at the T-junction, turn right. Walk alongside a fence on your left and, further on, turn left onto Rue des Huguenots.

(4) At the fork, continue downhill to the right along this same street, pass a wash house, then carry on straight ahead. At the Stop sign, ignore the road on your right leading to Nézel and Maule and, at the T-junction that comes immediately after, go up a small street on the left. At the T-junction, turn left (there is a no-entry sign on the right). At the next junction, continue straight ahead.

(5) At the T-junction, turn slightly right and continue along this path, keeping the hedges on your right and ignoring the turnings to the right. You will come out onto Route de Montgardé.

(6) Turn right and continue straight ahead, crossing a roundabout and passing a secondary school on your right. At the T-junction, turn left and ignore Rue des Palmiers. Just after the bus stop, cross Avenue de la Division Leclerc at the pedestrian crossing and take the path on the right, then turn left in front of a block of flats with two stairwells (4 and 2). Go through a gate and continue straight ahead along Allée du Haut du Parc until you reach a high-voltage substation.

(7) Turn right and a few metres further on, after a pedestrian crossing, take a path on the left and continue left to arrive immediately in front of ‘La Maison de Tous’. Turn immediately right to walk alongside a long building. At number 35, with your back to the building, cross Rue du Belvédère and its car park to enter a park, then continue along a path to the right with the playground on your left. When you reach a new block of flats, ignore the two paths on your right (one in front of and the other behind this building). Continue to the right and, just before the car park, turn left onto the tarmac path which turns into a footpath. Walk down until you reach another block of flats.

(8) Continue to the left towards a flight of steps. When you reach the street, turn left, walk past a small building and continue left for a few metres.

(9) Cross Rue de la Coopération at the pedestrian crossing to enter a park (wooden gate), which you will cross to the left towards the church. Then take a cobbled path and turn left in front of the town hall (marked by a striking tree).

(10) With your back to the town hall, cross Place Jean Monnet and walk past the church to turn left onto Grande Rue. Walk alongside the Château du Vivier, turn into the first street on the left and continue to the Théâtre de la Nacelle (S/E).

I'm happy for you!
...a little path opposite the church... Actually, I'm not sure if it's always open?

Hello
Thank you for this beautiful hike, which I extended for my club's needs.
Hike no. 91770105, 13 km and 200 m elevation gain, if you're interested.
One comment: I went straight up the hiking trail at the top of the theatre towards the woods rather than taking the road, but I suppose that was to see the wash house?
I also followed the advice of another hiker and went through the park rather than through the Da Costa neighbourhood.
I also took a small path opposite the church that led me directly into the castle grounds, but access may not always be open via this route.
In any case, thank you 🙏

A lovely walk with some interesting sights.
Instead of going through the Cité d'Acosta, carry on through the forest – it’s just as nice.

A lovely discovery around Aubergenville.
I did this route, slightly altering the final section to go through the park behind the housing estate.
I haven’t published this route as it’s a copy of this one, but for those interested in this variation, it can be found under no. 71259936

The route is well described and easy to follow, except from point 7 onwards, where it’s not easy to find your way (around the buildings)
A lovely discovery: the Château du Vivier
