Vaux-les-Huguenots, Aigue Flore Park, the Mauldre

Departure from Nézel-Aulnay station.
- Access by train (Line N).
- Parking on the D191, Rue Saint-Blaise, or nearby.

(S/E) With your back to the station, head towards the pedestrian crossing, cross the D191 and turn right. Further on, turn left onto Sente Rurale No. 22.

(1) When this path soon turns left, continue straight ahead along a small track which leads to a T-junction. Turn left onto a^{PR® path}, then leave it at a fork a few metres further on to continue right, emerging near a wash house.

(2) Turn right into Rue des Huguenots. At the stop sign, ignore the road on your right leading to Nézel and Maule. At the T-junction that comes up immediately, go up a small street on the left. At the T-junction, turn left (there is a no entry sign on the right). At the next junction, take the path on the left. Further on, at a fork in the hamlet, continue to the right^, then ignore the side streets to reach a T-junction with a^{PR® sign.} Head down to the left.

(3) Take the first small path on the right marked in yellow (there is a hunting reserve sign). This^{PR® path} leads between houses, widens and then joins a tarmac road (Chemin des Belles-Vues). At the next junction, turn left for a few metres.

(4) Immediately turn left down a small path at No. 46. Cross the Route de Montgardé. At the T-junction, turn left onto Chemin des Hamards, cross a roundabout and continue along the Route de Montgardé.

(5) Turn right onto the railway footbridge. Cross the D191 by first turning right then left, and take Ruelle du Colombier, then the path that continues from it. Cross two small bridges and you’ll come out onto Rue de l’Élizée.

(6) Turn right, then further on turn left onto Rue des Écoles. Head right into Rue des Grands Prés until you reach the town hall. Enter Parc Aigue Flore. Then retrace your steps back to the school.

(7) At the fork, opposite the castle entrance, walk past the school, heading uphill to the right along Rue de la Source. Let the street curve to the right and, immediately after, turn right into the cul-de-sac, Rue de Tanqueue. Pass a wash house on your left and turn left into Rue de la Source. Then go down the first street on the left, Chemin de la Mare Malaise, ignoring Impasse des Fiefs, to reach the castle entrance gate further on.

(7) Turn right into Rue du Château and continue along Rue du Bec de Géline to number 47.

(8) Turn immediately left, cross a small bridge and continue along Rue du Pont des Prés. At a junction, follow the road to the left to quickly reach a level crossing. Cross it and turn left to return to the starting point (S/E).

Alternative route to see the vineyards: approx. 800 m further
(4) Immediately turn left at No. 46, following a small path. At Route de Montgardé, turn left and then immediately left again into Rue de la Terrianne. Continue along Chemin des Paquières until you reach the vineyard on your left. On the way back, turn left onto Rue des Cottages then veer right onto Route de Montgardé until you reach the railway bridge. (5).

Alternative route to see the Old Bridge: approx. 300 m further
(6) Turn right, then further on turn right again to make a round trip along Rue du Vieux Pont to see the bridge.

Nézel

Saint-Blaise Church (D191)
The church was originally a chapel and was only elevated to the status of a church following an appeal ruling handed down on 29 May 1546. The square bell tower was rebuilt in 1772, then renovated in 1848. In 1985, a complete restoration of the bell tower was undertaken. The interior of the church, which has also been restored, comprises a single nave.

Old Bridge (Rue du Vieux Pont)
A two-arched stone bridge over the Mauldre, built in 1758 by Louis-Urbain-Aubert de Tourny, Lord of La Falaise.

Church of the Nativity of the Virgin
This church replaces an old chapel. Consecrated on 8 June 1601, it was then an annex of the parish of Epône and built at the behest of the lords of La Falaise.

The Protestant influence stems from the fact that the Huguenots came here to seek refuge in the late 16th and early 17th centuries to escape persecution.
