Description of the walk

The car park is located next to Messac Church.

(S/E) Leave the car park by turning left onto the road. Walk past the church and the town hall. The road descends towards the Fontaine de Messac, situated just after the right-hand bend in the road.
At the bend, take the road on the left that goes uphill and immediately turn right onto the road leading to the hamlet of Chez Barré.

Immediately, turn right onto the farm track towards Moulin de Serres. The farm track overlooks a spring and then leads to a crossroads. Turn sharply right onto the track that passes near Moulin de Serres before crossing the River Pimparade and joining the D153 road.

(1) Turn left onto the road, and almost immediately right onto a farm track that climbs the hillside and, from halfway up, runs alongside vineyards.
Upon reaching the top of the hill, the farm track comes to a T-junction. Turn left and, upon reaching the edge of the woods, turn right onto the path which, after a short stretch along the edge, crosses into the woods.

(2) When the track emerges from the woods, turn right at the edge of the woods towards the hamlet of Le Terrier.
Cross Le Terrier; the track gives way to a small road. Continue straight on along this road until you reach a T-junction.

(3) Turn right, then take the first path on the left which crosses the Bois de la Croix de Pibeau.
Continue straight on along this path, which eventually leads to the edge of the woods with vineyards on your right. Continue to the hamlet of Chez Malineau

(4) When you reach the road, continue straight ahead along it, which means you won’t have to go through the hamlet.
At the crossroads immediately after, turn left towards the D152 road, which you then follow by turning right towards the hamlet of Le Bois Haut.

(5) Turn left onto the road that takes you through the hamlet of Le Bois Haut.
Continue towards the hamlet of Chez les Jacques. At the next crossroads, head straight ahead to go round the hamlet on the right.

The road eventually joins the D153, which runs through the village of Vibrac. Turn right towards Vibrac. Almost immediately, on the left, you will find Saint-Germain Church. Before the school, turn left onto the street that goes round the school and the town hall before rejoining the D153. Turn left.

(6) Immediately, turn left again onto the road heading north-east. Further on, the road crosses the Pimparade at a place called Passerelle du Pas de Bailloux.
Shortly afterwards, pass the road leading to Moulin de Vieuille on your right. The road then climbs steeply to reach the top of the hill.

When it bends to the left, just before the top of the hill, take the farm track on the right. This area comprises various plots of vineyards. The track runs along the hillside and offers lovely views over the Pimparade valley. Continue straight on until you reach the D152 road.

(7) Turn left.

(8) When you reach the junction of the D152 road with the road leading to the hamlet of Chez Blanchet, turn right onto the road heading towards the hamlet of Chez Garraud.
The road goes round the hamlet and comes to a junction with the access road to the hamlet on the left. Continue straight on along the farm track until you reach a road. Then turn left and go for 100m.

(9) At the next T-junction, turn right and almost immediately right again onto a farm track which soon enters the Bois de Cotrau.
Continue straight on towards the hamlet of Le Canton. After crossing the woods, the farm track passes between plots of vineyards, then runs along the edge of a wood on the left and finally along the edge of a vineyard plot on the right.

Pass by the buildings in the hamlet known as Le Canton before reaching the D255 road. Turn right to return to the village of Messac.

At the entrance to the village, you will find the car park on the left (S/E).

We went on this walk in August; the path is pleasant when it winds through the woods to escape the intense heat. The route is easy to follow. There’s a bit of tarmac, but the area isn’t very busy. There are some hills towards the end, so avoid the hottest part of the day!

A very pleasant walk in glorious weather.
I’d like to mention the wash house with its very unusual inverted roof at the start, by the Messac fountain.
Also, at the Pas de Bailloux footbridge, you can have a picnic at the tables by the horse-riding stop.
I can confirm that the information is accurate.
