Description of the walk

The car park is located at the village hall at the north-eastern entrance to the village of Tugéras. The car parks near the town hall and the church are small car parks reserved for parents who have children at the school opposite the town hall (as confirmed by the Mayor on 27 November 2025). Please respect this rule.

(S/E) Drive carefully along the Ozillac road for about 50 metres. Turn left onto Rue Duvivier and continue along Rue des Écoles. Pass the town hall and arrive at the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption.

(1) Continue left, heading south on Rue des Fleurs (D149), then Rue du Puits Vieil. Pass a calvary further on. The road is now close to the railway line on the left. Continue to the next junction on the left with the D255 road known as Ham de la Gare in the hamlet of Les Brandes.

(2) Turn left and then immediately right onto a path that heads south and runs alongside the railway line.

(3) Just before a level crossing, turn right onto a path that heads west and arrives at a crossroads. At the T-junction, go left and then turn right onto the path. Further on, join the D149 and follow it to the left.

(4) When the road turns left, take a grassy path on the right (north-west). At a place called Chez Belet (abandoned), turn left. Join a white path and follow it to the right. Leave Chez Guiet on your left and rejoin the tarmac road. At the T-junction, follow a road to the left for about 50 metres.

(5) Turn right and follow Rue de Chez Les Gens to the place of the same name. After Impasse de Chez les Gens, take a path on the left. This path skirts the southern edge of Bois du Pinier before heading towards Le Fourneau.

(6) Take a path on the right that heads north-east and soon climbs towards the Bois du Pinier.

(7) At the edge of the woods, enter by taking the path diagonally to the right. Follow this path, which winds through the woods for about 300 metres. At the T-junction, turn right to reach the edge of the woods in about 50 metres (beautiful view to the east).

(8) Retrace your steps and continue straight ahead until you reach the western edge of the woods. Just before leaving the woods, enjoy a beautiful view of the Moulin de la Ramée mill along the path.

(9) Turn right and immediately take a grassy path on the left (west-northwest). On the path, admire the Moulin de la Ramée mill on your right. Join the D19 road and follow it to the right for a few dozen metres.

(10) Turn right onto a path and walk along the embankment on your right. Further on, turn right at a right angle with the path.

(11) At the T-junction, turn left. At the next intersection, continue along a small road until you reach the church.

(1) Take the second left and, following the outward route in reverse, return to the village hall (S/E).

Notes

This hike takes place on varied terrain and requires suitable footwear. In autumn and winter, it is advisable to wear good, waterproof footwear, possibly with gaiters, as most of the paths are grassy and can quickly soak your feet.

Variation
Continue straight ahead at point (7) and go directly to point (9) (without going around the Bois du Pinier). The length of the hike is then 8.5 km.

This route is not marked, but is easy to follow. It is therefore advisable to follow the directions in the description and on the map, combined with a good reading of the landscape. The waypoints (with their GPS coordinates and distance from the starting point) are helpful for hikers who are new to the route.

Tugéras Saint Maurice

The municipality's website offers a virtual tour.

The Church of the Assumption
The Church of the Assumption, in the village of Tugéras, dates from the 12th and 15th centuries. The ornate portal dates from the 16th century. It has been listed as a historic monument since 1935, with the exception of the bell tower, whose spire dates from the 19th century.
This church contains six silver-plated copper candlesticks from the first quarter of the 19th century. They have been listed as historic monuments since 10 November 1980.
Dating from the same period and also listed since 1980, the painted and gilded wooden altar was restored by Jean-Louis Dufon in 2002 and 2003, particularly the iconographic elements (Saint Peter and Saint Paul).
