From Chez Fedon to La Guignerie from Coux

A pleasant hike in the countryside around Coux to discover this slightly hilly corner of Saintonge with its varied landscapes of vineyards, crops and woods. It is a very natural area despite the scattered hamlets. Beautiful examples of architectural heritage dot the route.

Description of the walk

Parking in front of the cemetery and church.

(S/E) Leave the car park via Impasse de l'Église heading south towards the junction with Avenue de la République.

(1) Turn left and continue to the junction with the street on the right immediately after. The town hall is on the right-hand side of the junction. Turn right onto Rue Bas du Bourg. A little further on, there is a memorial stone on the right-hand side of the road commemorating the discovery of a lead urn containing the heart of the Duke of Berry in 1966. Further on, cross the D253 with caution south of the hamlet of La Pipe and continue opposite on Route de Chardes. The road reaches the railway line after passing the hamlet of Le Champ de la Plante. Cross the railway line via a bridge and go to the crossroads immediately after.

(2) Turn left onto the road called Terre de Langou, which heads north-east. It curves around the pond between the railway line and the road. Continue straight ahead.

(3) Cross the Laurençette stream and continue to a road just west of Chez Fedon. Turn right onto Route de Chez Fedon and continue to the crossroads at the place of the same name.

(4) Turn left onto the road heading north-east. Once you have passed the last houses, the road gives way to a track. At the next crossroads, take the track on the left and continue to the junction with a road called Chez Lambert a little further on.

(5) Continue north on the right-hand path towards a small wood. Further on, the path, on the edge of the woods on your right, turns left and passes between two vineyards, then crosses a small wood and ends up on the small road leading to Les Joncs. Turn right and, shortly afterwards, turn left onto the D253 to reach the junction with the first farm track on the right.

(6) Turn onto this path, which soon crosses a wood, and continue to a T-junction at the edge of the wood in front of a small agricultural shed. Turn left onto the path which soon joins a white path coming from Chez Jouet. Follow this white path towards Cazillac. Pass slightly away from the houses and continue towards the railway line.

(7) The path crosses the Laurençanne stream, then heads towards the railway line and passes under it. The path winds its way to the crossroads at La Guignerie. Carefully follow the road to the right and pass La Guignerie.

(8) When the road turns to the right, take the path opposite that heads south. Further on, the path runs alongside the Bois de la Terrière on the left and leads to a road.

(9) Turn left and carefully follow the road towards Coux, passing the school in the Bel Air neighbourhood a little further on. Upon entering Coux, the road becomes Avenue de la République and arrives at the initial intersection.

(1) Turn left into Impasse de l'Église and return to the parking spot (S/E).
