Description of the walk

Park close to the port and the Hautmont nautical centre. Departure is from the Halte Nautique d'Hautmont, on the left bank of the Sambre.

(S/E) Turn left into Rue des Bateliers. Follow it to the left. Note the fresco l'île des quatre maitres, turn right into Rue Adolphe Genu to reach Rue de l'Abreuvoir.

(1) Follow this to the left and head towards Place du Général de Gaulle to discover the former abbey of the Benedictine monks Saint Pierre et Saint Paul, the Church of Notre-Dame de l'Assomption and the 4 statues in the square, including the Statue de Landowski.

(2) Retrace your steps as far as the Halte Nautique.

(S/E) Follow the left bank of the Sambre between two woods. Pass under the railway line and arrive at the crossroads of the loop.

(3) Turn left immediately afterwards and stay on the track, then onto Rue des Usines. Arrive at the roundabout.

(4) Go straight ahead onto Rue des Cligneux, which runs parallel to the railway line. Continue straight ahead, on Chemin Noir, until you reach: Point d'Arrêt.

(5) Turn right onto Rue de Boussières, go straight on and ignore the left-hand path to reach Le Tiote.

(6) Follow the road (Rue de Boussières) 90° to the left to reach the Chemin de Halage de la Sambre.

(7) Turn right onto this path; go straight on until you reach the crossroads.

(3) Turn right and return to the Hautmont water sports centre, taking the opposite route from the outward journey (S/E).

As a former resident of Hautmont, I would like to point out that the description of the second departure point is completely incorrect.
The left bank of the Sambre is inaccessible, so you have to start again from Rue des Bateliers and follow the Sambre along the towpath on the right bank to point 3.
At point 6, you must turn right, not left.
