The ‘Bois de Moines’ circular route is one of the eleven short routes in the Surmelin Valley. It passes through the villages of Le Breuil and La Ville-sous-Orbais. The route follows part of the Surmelin GRP®.

Description of the walk

You can park on Place Bastidon in Le Breuil, near the Vallée du Surmelin tourist sign.

(S/E) Leaving the square, head left down Rue du Vieux Moulin and continue straight on after the bridge over the Surmelin. Then head right up Rue de la Blâtrerie for 350 m. After number 22, take the small path on the right.

(1) At the junction, take the local road to the right, between the vineyards and fields. Follow this road for 2.2 km, passing the Brocheron, Bayard and des Marots farms, until you reach the hamlet of La Championnerie.

(2) At the crossroads, follow the road straight ahead towards Le Lohan. After 450 m, just before the farm, take the farm track on the right towards the forest. Cross the footbridge over the Ru des Grosses Pierres, follow the path on the right and, after 150 m, cross the footbridge over the Surmelin to reach the Moulin de la Ville.

(3) At the mill, continue straight ahead, following the arrow towardsLa Ville-sous-Orbais until you reach the D42. Follow it to the right towards the village and stay on the main road until you reach the cemetery.

(4) At the junction, leave the D42 and take the road on the left towards Margny. Follow this local road for 1.1 km.

(5) At the junction, take the road on the right, following the arrow towards Le Breuil, until you reach the Bufferie farm.

(6) Go round the farm, then head down the path on the right towards the forest. In the forest, follow the main track straight on for 1.5 km and turn right after a bend. Head back up towards the D23 road.

(7) Take the road on the right for 50 m, then continue right onto a track and follow the arrow on the right towards Le Breuil, heading down the farm track for 700 m.

(8) At the junction, turn right onto the D23, which bends left towards the village, then head down Rue du Vieux Moulin to the left until you reachPlace Bastidon (S/E).
