From Sare, follow the signs for the Sare Caves. Park just before the caves in the small car park on the right.
(S/E) Go through a gate and take the stairway on the right, marked with yellow signs. It is quite steep at the start but becomes less steep at the end of the steps. Pass a spring. Turn right to reach a stony path. Turn left and continue climbing. Leave a path on the right and take the next one on the left.
(1) Turn left and join a track. Turn right and follow it to the next junction. Turn left and follow the yellow markings. Continue along the path to reach a crossroads marked by a cairn.
(2) Climb the embankment on the right to take a path that becomes wide and grassy until the next left turn. The path climbs, winding through the grass. The yellow markings become quite sparse. Take the time to look up to see the markings or guess the route. Climb diagonally south-east to reach the ridge. Do not hesitate to descend a few metres to avoid the slabs, which can be slippery. Reach the summit of Atxuria.
(3) Follow the yellow markings, which continue eastwards slightly above the ridge to a small pass.
(4) ThePR® trail turns southwards. Leave it and continue opposite, still below the ridge. As you descend, veer left until you come to a small path a few metres below. Follow it to the right until you reach the next small pass.
(5) Cross over to the other side on the right. A path descends steeply to the junction of a track with a signpost. APR® trail branches off to the left through the larch forest and also leads to Zugarramudi. Do not take it, but continue straight ahead, skirting the larch trees on the right. Pass through a slightly marshy area. The path passes two fences. Immediately after the second fence, turn left. Reach an enclosure, go around it on the right and reach the Urbia pass.
(6) Take the road on the left and head towards Zugarramurdi.
(7) In the centre, take the road to the caves, Cuevas. Just after the caves, leave it and join a path on the left marked with a small blue horse.
(8) Take this path and go down the steps, cross a footbridge and continue to the road. Turn right. Go through a fork and continue to the left.
(9) Leave the road to reach a small meadow. Continue to follow the Blue Horse markings until you reach a venta.
(10) Take the paved path that branches off to the left. It leads to a road and immediately turns left, following it until you reach the entrance to the quarry. Continue to the small car park at the Grottes de Sare (S/E).
