Gier (rivière) à finaliser walks

An easy walk to enjoy as a family. Very popular in summer, it is worth the detour to admire the panoramic view over the Alps and the summits of Mont Blanc, the Lyonnais mountains and the Giers valley, the Vercors massif and those of northern Vivarais. With a wealth of flowers in spring, you can gather bilberries in August and raspberries in September. Unless you choose to go ski touring or cross-country skiing here in winter.

This is a lovely hike for exploring the Pilat ridges, with superb panoramic views of the entire Alpine range. The route takes you through a variety of landscapes, from scree slopes to coniferous forests and heathland covered with heather and broom. In season, you can pick wild raspberries and blueberries. This route offers a return via a less frequented path through a deciduous forest.

This is a fairly strenuous hike with beautiful views. If you wish, between (1) and (2), you can take a slightly easier route. The waterfall is worth the detour.

Long hike in the Pilat massif. Ideal for beautiful days in May. This hike has two main attractions. It allows you to discover the Cascade du Gier waterfall before entering a completely different world and discovering all the ridges of the Pilat. The advantage is that there are several points where it is possible to shorten this beautiful hike. Please note: the first part through the woods is not well marked and it is easy to take the wrong path.

In the heart of the Pilat mountains, this hike will take you to the highest point of the massif, the Crêt de la Perdrix. The route will guide you to the Saut du Gier, a pretty waterfall not far from the shepherd's hut, where the river has its source. The path will take you through majestic forests where tall trees will shelter you from the sun's rays in summer.

The walk is often through woodland between Saint-Romain-en-Gier and Échalas, north of Pilat (Gier valley).

This is an alternative route that allows you to enjoy the Saut du Gier, La Jasserie and Crêt de la Perdrix without covering too many kilometres. A pleasant woodland environment, scree slopes, the Saut du Gier, the Source du Gier at La Jasserie, and Crêt de la Perdrix with its orientation table. Beautiful panoramic views on clear days over the Rhône Valley and the Alps (Mont Blanc). A reasonably challenging route. Departure from La Scie du Bost.

Walk between the two villages of Bas-Pilat, crossing several streams and valleys that descend to the Gier.

A beautiful hike starting from the heights of La Valla-En-Gier to discover three dams used for drinking water production. Not recommended for those prone to vertigo.

Very pleasant in summer, this circular route, mostly through the forests on the northern slope of the Pilat, culminates at the Saut du Gier. From the Scie du Bost, the path leads to the beautiful Gier waterfall, then climbs a rocky escarpment to reach the shepherd's hut and the Crêt de la Perdrix, the highest point of the Pilat at an altitude of 1,432 m. Following the GR®7 and then the GR®42, which crosses the village of Le Bessat, you approach the village of La Tarentaise before descending into the Vallon du Ban and climbing up to Le Rot, then through the Vallon de La Fare to return to the starting point.

This hike, alternating between small roads and dirt tracks on the south-facing side of the Gier valley, largely avoids muddy patches and benefits from a south-facing aspect, making it more enjoyable in winter. From Dargoire, a charming little medieval village, the route heads west, crossing the Bezançon valley over the rustic stone bridge of La Roussilière and, after a detour to the waterfall, climbs up to the village of Saint-Joseph. It runs along the top of the Saint-Martin-la-Plaine zoological park, then passes in front of the small chapel of La Cula, before crossing the hamlet of Tarévieux. It descends to Chagnon, heads east to follow the Durèze and passes under its remarkable Roman bridge. It climbs back up to Genilac, crosses the Féloin valley, then descends to Les Peschures, from where it climbs to Grand leat. At La Renavelière, it climbs through woods in the Bezançon valley and, via La Roussilière, reaches Tartaras, then plunges down to Dargoire.

Cette randonnée longue et vallonée se déroule majoritairement en forêt ce qui la rend particulièrement agréable en été malgré sa faible altitude. Le parcours en boucle depuis la Terrasse-sur-Dorlay débute par une montée sur la ligne de crête dominant la retenue du Dorlay pour rejoindre la Croix du Planil. Le parcours vient jouxter la Jasserie avant de rejoindre Doizieux et remonter vers le Collet de Doizieux. Le circuit se prolonge par un passage à la Croix de Montvieux, à la Croix du Mazet puis à celle du Pendu. Enfin par le vallon de la Mornante on retrouve la Terrasse-sur-Dorlay.

A long and beautiful circular route that begins in a small valley, at the bottom of which lies a hermitage. After a climb, the view opens up onto the Soulages Dam and La Rive lakes. You follow the latter to climb up to the Sapey woods plateau and reach Rochetaillée. A magnificent village dominated by its 12th-century castle. The path leads to the Auberge de Salvaris, which invites you to take a break and enjoy the beautiful view.
