By car, take the D488 which runs alongside the A47 motorway, connecting Givors to Rive-de-Gier, then take the D37.2, Route de Dargoire, and then Rue du Lozange. Park in the large car park on the left, about 250 m after the road sign for Dargoire.
(S/E) Continue along Rue du Lozange, ignore Route de Saint-Jean-de-Touslas on the right, and admire the magnificent arched gate that leads to the fortified medieval village. Continue for 60 metres and turn left onto the D37.2 towards Tartaras. Just before the hairpin bend, you will come to a fork in the road and a footpath.
(1) On the right, go up the path (Chemin de la Garenne) marked in blue and reach an intersection. Turn onto the path ascending to the right to immediately reach a wide path marked in yellow. Follow it to the left and, after a left turn, enter the hamlet of Murigneux. Cross it straight ahead (west) to reach a small roundabout at ground level (elevation 329).
(2) Continue straight ahead on Route de la Roussilière towards Saint-Maurice-sur-Dargoire. Cross a path (elevation 346). Carefully cross the busy D342 (pedestrian crossing). Opposite, take the 2D.E towards Chabanière. About 100 m further on, keep left onto Chemin de la Viria to reach a three-way junction flanked by a cross. On the right, take the dirt track.
(3) Ignore the sign. Take Chemin des Balmes, which descends opposite towards an electricity pylon. At the left-hand bend, towards a farm, continue straight ahead. Pass under a high-voltage power line and you will come to a fork.
(4) Ignore the path opposite and head left into the vegetation, following a stony path marked in yellow. Cross the charming stone bridge at La Roussilière. Immediately after, turn left onto a narrow path which, 10 metres further on, offers a view of the waterfall on the Le Bezançon stream.
(5) Retrace your steps and, staying on the same bank, climb the path opposite. Leave the woods and, across the fields, reach an intersection. Turn left to walk alongside the houses, then continue right on their access road before reaching Chemin du Moulin. Take the right-hand branch (west) to reach Route des Granges.
(6) On this road, turn left, then immediately right onto Route de la Jubilière, towards Saint-Joseph. At the fork, keep left onto Route du Stade. Walk alongside the sports complex, then go around it on the right, on the same road, until you reach a fork. Leave the road for the path slightly to the left and you will come to a crossroads.
(7) Cross the M30 and Rue du Bourg, then follow the signs for Grange Blanche opposite. At the crossroads marked with a cross, take the street on the left signposted "Lotissement de Grange Blanche". Ignore the private roads on the left, then start descending and, after a hairpin bend to the left, find a path on the right.
(8) Take this path, cross the small Vaille stream and climb up the opposite slope. At the junction with a dirt track, continue straight ahead (west) and head for a road junction (elevation 400) in the hamlet of Le Mas. Cross Route du Mas and continue along Chemin du Crêt, which leads to Chemin de Rieu. Climb up to the right and you will soon reach a junction (elevation 429).
(9) Turn left onto the old railway line. Ignore the crossroads and make a wide circular loop to the left. You will reach a crossroads (elevation 477) at the entrance to the hamlet of La Quinsonnière. Climb Chemin du Grand Soulier on the right and, at the top, join Route de la Libération.
(10) Take this road to the left for 150 metres, then turn right onto the first street, Chemin de la Champagnière, towards Le Crêt. After 400 metres, you will reach a fork. Follow the sign for Chemin Combe Plotton on the left. Following the contour line, cross this valley in wide arcs while skirting the top of the Saint-Martin-la-Plaine Zoological Park. You will reach an intersection at the entrance to the hamlet of La Bourdinière.
(11) At the hiking sign, ignore the marked path on the right and the one immediately to the left. Continue straight ahead and, after a right/left turn, you will come to an X-shaped crossroads. Take the old railway line on the right. Cross the M37 (elevation 458) diagonally, then follow it on your right. In the wide left-hand bend, at the La Cula sign, you will come to a fork.
(12) Go up the steep Chemin de la Chapelle on the right and you will arrive opposite the chapel on the M37, the Route de La Cula. Follow it for 100 m to the left, then leave it in front of the low wall to climb the street to the right of it. At the end of the block, turn right onto Montée de La Rocherie. At the fork, stay on the same road, slightly to the left, and continue to a crossroads (elevation 529).
(13) Cross the road and, opposite, climb the path on the Crêt du Peu. Ignore the paths on the left and descend on the Montée de Grand Champ path. Follow it to the left (south). After a left turn, at the next intersection, ignore a path on the left and turn right. Further down, in the hamlet of Tarévieux, you will come to a crossroads marked with a cross.
(14) Ignore the side roads and continue straight down the same street, which is a no-entry road. Cross the M6, Route de Tarévieux, and continue along Chemin de Paleton. Ignore a path on the right, then another on the left, and continue straight ahead. At the fork, leave the path turning right and continue on the path on the left that runs alongside a wood. In the wood, near the aqueduct over the Gier, you will come to a fork.
(15) Go down the path on the right and, after a few bends, you will reach an intersection. On the left, continue down the winding path. At the bottom, turn left onto Route du Val de la Durèze. Ignore the bridge leading to the village of Chagnon on the right, stay on the same road and pass under the majestic Roman bridge. Continue along the charming path that runs along the left bank of the Durèze, ignoring any paths that lead away from it. Cross the bridge over the river and, after 150 m, take the road on the right that joins the M65.
(16) Go down it on the left for 200 metres. Opposite the Route de la Viollière, turn left onto a path leading down through the woods. Cross the footbridge over the Durèze and climb diagonally up the side of the valley. You will come to the Route des Arcs near the Espace Vert de la Plombière, which has benches.
(17) Go up to the left, ignoring the side streets. At the entrance to Genilac, in front of the central island, turn left onto Rue de la Plombière in the wrong direction. Cross Place Bonnard, turn opposite into Impasse de l'Église, then turn left onto Rue de l'Église. After half a circle, at the corner of the church apse, descend to the left, cross Rue des Fossés and, straight ahead, go down Rue du Couvent until you reach a fork.
(18) Ignore the path on the right and continue slightly to the left, down Rue de Champcornu. Cross Rue du Ranchet and, at the bottom, keep left on Rue des Champagnières, which is lined with a wall. Leave the side streets and join the wide Route des Burlat, the M6. Continue straight ahead for 50 metres before turning right onto Chemin des Glycines. At the end, join the roundabout opposite via the M6.
(19) Continue straight ahead on the M6 towards Rive-de-Gier. After 150 m, at the fork, follow Chemin de Grange Burlat on the left. Cross the M6 and stay on the same road, which is a no-entry road. About 400 m further on, turn onto the first street on the left, cross the M6 again and go down Chemin Saint-Martin. Cross the bridge over the Ruisseau le Féloin stream and you will come to a fork.
(20) Ignore the path on the left and climb up the Piroche path opposite. Before the esplanade in front of two houses, follow the muddy path down to the left. Climb it to reach the Coursière de Chantelezard. Go down it to the right and take the first street on the left along a housing estate, the Chemin du Plon. After 150 m, at the intersection, go down it to the right and you will reach the Route de Saint-Martin, the M30.
(21) Go up it on the left and, at the end of the hairpin bend, leave it for the first street on the left, Chemin des Alysses. At the end of it, rejoin the M30, follow it to the right for 100 m, and turn left onto Chemin de la Colache (elevation 319). After 250 m, ignore Rue des Amandiers, a dead end opposite, and turn left onto Chemin de la Colache. This leads to Montjoie Saint-Martin.
(22) Take it to the left and turn right onto the first street, Chemin des Peschures. Follow it for 300 metres until you reach an intersection. Ignore Chemin des Mines opposite and continue down Chemin des Peschures to the right, ignoring the side streets. At the bottom, pass Allée des Lilas on your left and Route des Castors on your right to reach Route de Frigerin.
(23) Turn left onto this road. After a slight downhill slope, it climbs again to reach a fork. Continue uphill on the small road on the left, Chemin du Puits Saint-Constant. Ignore the private roads on the right and join the M 37. Follow this road downhill on the right and, after it bends to the right, you will reach a fork upstream of a narrow section. Turn left onto Chemin du Puits Dumas, which is a one-way street. Cross the M37 and, opposite, go down the extension of the previous road to reach an intersection.
(24) Turn left onto Chemin du Pizay. Cross the M37 and continue straight ahead down Chemin de la Renavelière. Cross the small bridge over the Bozançon, which cascades upstream. Through the woods, follow the stream and, at the fork where it meets Le Vaille, continue to the right. Climb up to a fork, continue on the path ascending to the right, leave the woods and join a track.
(25) Follow it to the left. Ignore the path on the left and go around a farmhouse. Before the cross, turn right onto Chemin de la Viria, leave Rue Froide on your right and continue straight ahead (south-east). After 150 m, join the main road, the D342.
(26) Cross it carefully (pedestrian crossing) and follow Chemin des Chantières. Go past the crossroads flanked by a hiking sign and, at the next crossroads with no sign, turn left onto the path to Croix Teillard. Cross the Combemartin and, at the crossroads on the opposite side, continue straight ahead on the same path. Ignore the path on the right and head for a crossroads marked with a cross.
(27) Turn right onto Route de Murignieux, which runs alongside the football stadium. At the fork, leave the road and turn left onto Coursière de Croix Vieille, which is a no-entry road. Further down, at the crossroads, cross the D37.1 and continue straight ahead on Allée des Peupliers until you reach an intersection.
(28) Ignore the Sentier des Mules on the left and turn right onto Rue Saint-Pierre Es Liens. Turn onto the first street on the left, Rue du Prieuré. Pass in front of the church and continue along the same winding street, ignoring Ruette des Mineurs on the right, then Rue Pierre Mussieux. Immediately at the cross, keep left to take Chemin du Plan, which leads to an intersection.
(29) Take Chemin de Tralachard on the left, then ignore a path on the right and descend to Dargoire. At the bottom, find Rue du Lozange and turn right to reach the car park (S/E).
