Parking is available in the Scie du Bost car park. A small, narrow but quiet road leads to it.
(S/E) Take this road uphill, on the left, pass between the group of houses and take the Saut du Gier path northwards to the next junction.
(1) Leave the left fork (this is the return route), take the stony path ascending to the right and enter the forest. A steady climb leads to a crossroads with a large cairn (pyramid of stones) which marks the start of a path on the right. This path climbs steadily to the shepherd's hut. Leave this path for now and make a return trip to Saut du Gier, which is well worth the detour.
(2) Continue uphill on the main path (north-east) which will take you to Saut du Gier and back. A little further up, ignore a fork on the left which is not shown on the IGN map and leads to a viewpoint.
(3) Arrival at Saut du Gier. After enjoying the view, take the same path back down to the large cairn mentioned above.
(2) Turn left and start the climb up to the shepherd's hut. Ignore the cross paths, cross a forest path and continue along the ascending path to the farmhouse inn.
(4) Arrival at the shepherd's hut and the Source du Gier. Turn right (south, south-east) to reach Crêt de la Perdrix. Follow the path through the fields. Crêt de la Perdrix is visible as there is little vegetation.
(5) Crêt de la Perdrix, the highest point at 1,432 metres, with its orientation table. Enjoy the view, then descend to the shepherd's hut, choosing either a route across the fields or the same path you took on the way up.
(4) Walk along the building and take the path that continues on from it. North, north-west. Pastureland before entering the forest and coming to a crossroads shortly afterwards.
(6) Take the very stony path downhill on the left (first fork on the left, with many dead trees, trunks pointing skywards). A little further down, at the next fork, turn left (south). Stay on this path, ignore the path that branches off to the left at the first hairpin bend and stay a little further down on the right until you reach a turning platform on a forest path. Continue along this path northwards for a good distance. Afterwards, it turns north-east, in a wide left-hand bend, a path descends to the left.
(7) Take this path downhill to the left (west), which allows you to avoid going all the way to Planil and complete a circular route that is not too long. Keep going in this direction until you reach the intersection with a forest road.
(8) Turn left and rejoin the circular loop coming from Planil. A little further on, there is a turning area. Continue straight ahead, heading south on a slight downhill slope. The path crosses Les Chirats and a stream, then heads west. The route is very pleasant. You will come back to the crossroads you encountered on the way out.
(1) The path becomes identical to the one on the way there until you return to the Scie du Bost car park (S/E).
