Access to the starting point: on the Basel-Karlsruhe motorway, take exit 52, drive through Steinbach, then Neuweier. Head towards Geroldsau. At the top of the hill, you will come to a crossroads. Park in the Zimmerplatz car park in the middle of the forest.
(S/E) From the Zimmerplatz car park to the Schwanenwasen car park, follow the yellow diamond markings.
Take the partially paved path towards Geroldsauerwasserfalle - Bütthof (north-east). You will arrive at Malsbach.
(1) At house no. 121, take the path that climbs to the right towards a road. Cross this road and you will arrive at a car park. At the end of the car park, turn left towards Grobbach Brücke.
(2) At the group of houses and the Brahms Brunnen, turn right towards the waterfalls, and shortly afterwards take the path down to the left towards the Grobbach river. Cross the bridge and follow the path that goes up along the river. Cross the river just before Bütthof.
If you do this hike in mid-May, you may be lucky enough to see the rhododendrons in bloom along the river.
(3) At the Bütthof restaurant, cross the path and continue straight on the path that runs along the right side of the river. Turn left onto the path.
(4) Turn right onto the path and, at the bend, take the path on the left that runs along the river on the right. Cross a bridge.
(5) Go up the path on the right towards Schwannenwasen.
(6) At the fork, turn left, then shortly afterwards onto the tarmac path on the right. Pass a farm and continue to the road.
(7) From Schwanenwasen to the Zimmerplatz car park, follow the blue diamond markings.
Cross the road and take the path on the right towards Zimmerplatz. Turn left, then shortly afterwards take the path on the right that passes under the Dachsbaufelsen rock. Cross a path and descend the trail. Cross another path.
(8) At the Völlerstein picnic area (the rock is 10 metres from the path), descend the path slightly to the right towards Zimmerplatz.
(9) Turn left, then, at the next junction, turn right. After a long climb, you will arrive at the Schwanenwasen car park and restaurant. You are now halfway there.
(10) Take the path towards Zimmerplatz. Shortly afterwards, take the path on the right. Pass under the Dachsbaufelsen rock. Cross a path and take the path on the left. Cross another path at a picnic area. Continue on the same path.
(9) At a hairpin bend, veer left.
(10) At the hairpin bend in front of the Spässbach Hütte, continue along this path until you reach the starting point, ignoring the paths to the left and right (S/E).
