Description of the walk

Park in the car park beside the B500, Schwarzwaldhochstrasse, at Hundseck, in the municipality of Bühlertal.

(S/E) Take the path marked with a Red Diamond, between the two restaurants at Hundseck, heading north. It is a wide and relatively flat path. Continue to the large road junction at Sand. Turn left to cross the B500 and reach the Good Shepherd Chapel in Sand (Sand Kapelle).

(1) Go round it on the right and now follow the path marked with a Yellow Diamond and named ‘Sand Kapelle – Streitweg’. Enter the forest heading towards Gertelbach. After a circular bend to the left, continue gently downhill to reach the crossroads at the hamlet of Streitweg.

(2) Turn right towards Gertelbach Wiedenfelsen, and you will then reach the Wiedenfelsen car park.

(3) Head down to the left, turning almost 180°, and continue until you reach the Gertelbach waterfalls at the lowest point. Then take a series of secured steps that allow you to walk alongside the waterfalls.

(4) Follow the same route back uphill in the opposite direction to return to the Wiedenfelsen car park.

(3) Continue the ascent by taking the Paradiesweg path, which starts behind the Hotel Wiedenfelsen.
Follow this beautiful path through the forest to reach the Paradiesweg–Bärenstein junction.

(5) Take the path on the right – this is the Kapellenweg. Walk past the old Sand ski lift and return to the Sand road junction you passed on the way out.

(1) Cross the B500 at this point to rejoin the path marked with a Red Diamond, which, when taken in the opposite direction, leads back to the Hundseck car park (S/E).

A very nice trail, done on the first days of autumn, a dream setting with the colours of the forest and a beautiful waterfall. However, we noticed a difference in markings between points 3 and 4, which changed from yellow diamonds to blue, and the path from point 5 to 1, which was not marked. The waterfall was more heavily used.

The route is only frequented on the return trip to the waterfalls. Otherwise, despite a day when many people were walking, there were few people on the path, so to avoid making the return trip along the same path, the Gertelbach Rundweg to go back up to join the Paradiesweg is a pleasant option, and then it merges with this path.
