Description of the walk

East car park (P-Ost) Ernst-Eisenlohr-Strasse, turn right towards the town centre.

(S/E) Go to the back of the car park and head towards Birkenweg. Take the small passage between houses no. 1 and 3 on the street, cross the bridge over the Krebsenbach stream and head towards In der Badermatt. Turn right and go to the end of the street. At Oberer Kirchweg, turn left. The entrance to the Sensory Park is 100 m away.

(1) Turn right and enter the park. Feel free to try out the 20 installations and walk back and forth between them. Turn right, then left, and go round the back of the René Schickele School, then follow the path to the left, which becomes the uphill Rue Mittlerer Kirchweg, to the end. Cross Rue Römerstrasse and enter the spa park. Continue to the pond.

(2) Turn left along the swan pond, then right. Admire the giant sequoias in the park. Walk between the Cassiopeia thermal baths building and the ruins of the Roman baths. Turn left onto the Zähringer Wanderweg. Go straight on at the next junction, then turn right to reach the Kurhaus.

(3) Walk past the Kurhaus on the right. At the junction with the Kaffeemühle Rundweg, follow this path to the right until you reach the viewpoint overlooking the Vosges.

(4) There are benches, chairs and a statue of Frederick I. Take the path uphill to the left next to the statue. Turn right twice, then head back up to the left twice.

(5) Climb up to the keep. Walk around the ruins and climb the spiral staircase to the top of the tower. Beautiful panoramic view. Exit via the side to return via the right and rejoin the same path as on the way there. At the fork, continue straight on, then turn left and go straight on until you reach the Zähringer Wanderweg. Turn left then right, cross Friedrichstrasse and enter the castle park (Schlosspark).

(6) Walk round the palace on the right. Stay on the path running parallel to Friedrichstrasse, then turn left to come out on the other side of the palace. Turn right onto Blauenstrasse. First turn right then left to reach St Paul’s Church.

(7) Continue straight on until you reach Kaiserstrasse. Turn right onto it, then, at the Fork in the road, turn right onto Luisenstrasse.

(8) Follow Luisenstrasse to the end. This is a lively shopping street. At the end of the street, turn right towards Zöllinplatz. Take Glasbachweg on the left. Then take the path on the left (stairs) between numbers 1 and 3 of the street, which leads down towards the Schwarzmatt Hotel and joins Akazienstrasse. Follow the street to the end. Worth a visit

This walk offers a glimpse of the main sights to see in Badenweiler. There are, of course, a number of others. These include, amongst others: the Hildegarde von Bingen Garden, the Belvedere, the statue of Anton Chekhov, the historic shelter near the Schlossberg Hotel, the Chasselas Garden, the Literary Museum, the School Museum, the History Museum, the Inhalatorium... There is a €3 charge to enter the Roman baths. Everything about Badenweiler: https://www.badenweiler-tourismus.de/fr/ort-badenweiler/sites-touristiques

The Catholic Church of St Peter at the end of the Schlosspark (6) is a beautiful building dating from 1960 and is open every day. The choir is magnificent.

The Protestant Church of St Paul (7) is also open every day.
