Description of the walk

(S) Departure from the former forest house of the abbey.
At the crossroads, take the path furthest to the right, the GRP® du Massif des Bauges (yellow markings on green signs) towards Saint-Ruph (east-north-east).
Join the Torrent de Saint-Ruph.

(1) Cross it, then turn slightly left to follow it along a forest road and join the Pont de Saint-Ruph to cross the Torrent de Saint-Ruph a second time.

(2) At the three-way junction of forest roads, at a place called Les Clavins, continue left to stay on the GRP®. Follow the signs for Glaise and the village of Faverges.

Please note: you are leaving the Bauges National Hunting and Wildlife Reserve. See: Park documentation

(3) At a place called La Charbonnière, leave the forest road and turn left onto the discreet path towards Glaise on the GRP®.

(4) At Glaise, take Route de Saint-Ruph on the left and pass through Les Roux. Leave the GRP® by taking a path on the left (fountain). Reach the road and follow it for a few dozen metres to the left.

(5) Just before the place called Bellecombe, turn right onto a path that leads to Villaret.

(6) At Villaret and at the end of the path, continue straight ahead. Turn right at the next crossroads (towards Seythenex, Les Combes, south-east) and go to the end of the road.

(7) Cross and take the Chemin Rural dit-Entre Deux Nants opposite (towards La Raynoz)
The path continues on an unpaved road under the power line. Continue straight ahead and take the next path on the right until you reach the D12.

(8) Turn right for a few metres and, at the first intersection, turn left to reach the place called La Raynoz.
At the end of the street, at the fountain, continue right to go uphill. After the bend, take a dirt road on the left. Continue straight ahead and turn right onto the Recorbaz municipal road to reach the locality of Tertenoz.

(9) In Tertenoz, at the school bus stop, turn right towards Les Combes, then leave the main road and continue straight ahead. Cross La Recorbaz and take a forest path.
At the end of the path, continue straight ahead on the road and take the marked trail at the end of the street.

(10) At Les Combes, at the end of the path, take the road, then continue left before the chapel (towards L'Alpettaz). At the next crossroads, at the hairpin bend, stay on the main forest path on the right. Pass under the power line.

(11) Before passing under another power line for the second time, leave the path and turn left onto the path under the power line. Continue straight ahead and take a hairpin bend to the left, then another to the right and continue straight ahead (south).

Be careful from this point onwards: due to numerous intersections and poor signposting, a GPS or map + compass is recommended for the end of the hike.

Cross the Ruisseau de Champ Fleury and then the Ruisseau des Panés. You will reach a T-junction.

(12) Turn left (northeast) and pass in front of the Chalet de Périllet. Cross back over the Ruisseau du Panés (north) and continue straight ahead.

(13) Be careful in this area: see photo: tricky passage

In the Pontvert forest, where the Fleury stream flows, the path is slippery due to the presence of slate on the ground and a steep slope. If the ground is wet, avoid walking on it or cross a little further down.

Cross and continue straight ahead to the Chalet de l'Alpettaz (E).

Practical information

Precautions for the hike:

Caution: From (13), see photo: tricky passage, access not recommended with children.

In the Pontvert Forest, where the Champ Fleury stream begins, the trail is slippery due to the presence of slate on the ground and a steep slope. If the ground is wet, avoid walking on this section or cross a little further down.

Highly recommended: walking sticks + non-slip shoes, such as Vibram soles.

Accommodation:

You can spend the night at the Chalet de l'Alpettaz

Water

There is a spring 30 m from the Chalet de l'Alpettaz but it is unreliable (marked near the chalet).
Alternatively, there is another spring with a moderate flow (1 litre in 45 seconds), renovated in 2015, on the other side of the slope, near the Savoret stream (there is a sign indicating the spring).

Difficulty (technical information):
